Too much protein make you gassy?

I just started the south beach diet and lately I am very gassy. Could this be caused by all the protein in the diet?

Are you eating more vegetables? That would make you more gassy - especially peppers and broccoli.

why hasn't anyone else responded to this Q? (I'm not the OP ... just a curious bystander)

Op here, no I have not started eating peppers or more brocolli. Is there anything else in South Beach diet foods that can make you real gassy?

I know that beans and dairy products (except yogurt) are the primary offenders for most people. Are you eating more beans or dairy?

I'm not on the South Beach diet, so I don't know what you are or aren't eating but I have been noticing lots more gassiness when I eat certain foods.

One thing is the protein bar (not a SB product) I ate today warns that the sugar alcohols in the bar can cause "gastrointestinal discomfort". I think that's their term for gas!

Also, any protein bar / raw carrots / apples combination in too short of a time also seems to cause problems.
