wine makes me stupid

I had 4 glasses of wine last night and I ended up calling my ex. I know I dialed the number a few times and I know he has caller ID and I know he knows. I don't know if he's seeing anyone. I haven't run into any of his friends. I know it's because tomorrow is valentines day. Why did caller ID get invented? I feel like the biggest loser.

hopefully you will learn from that feeling and avoid the "drunk-dialing" in the future. not much else you can do at this point except suck it up and move on.

gah! we've all done this at one time or another! just try to forget about it-there is nothing you can do to retract your actions. if he calls and asks why you called-you could either be honest, and say "oops, i had a couple of glasses of wine" or tell him you must have sat on your cell phone and it speed dialed him accidentally.

The term "drunk dialing" didn't come from just 1 person. Next time (if there is one) try to remember he's your ex for a reason and it's easy to get all nostalgic and melancholy after a couple glasses (speaking as another person who's been there and done that). I am with the 'fess up if he calls back' poster, although it's likely he won't. Lesson learned. The longer you beat yourself up, the longer it will take to move on.

and yes - I think wine makes us all stupid

i so totally would not embarass myself further by lying about what happened. if he should call you about the caller ID read-out, tell him the truth and erase his number from your phone. it will make it more difficult to repeat the mistake if you need to dial a bunch of numbers instead of just i or 2 digits. and, yeah, this has happened to the bst of us.

It could be worse- he could have answered and you could have hooked up in a swirl of valentines day inspired mutual pity.

I once had a relationship, for lack of a better word, like that- We'd break up, 3 month later neither of us would be dating, we'd manage to "accidentally" bump into each other at the store, or call up to "just say hi, see how things are going," and end up having sex, getting back together and then quickly realizing why we broke up in the first place, stay together for a month or two anyway, then break up and do it all over again 2-3 months later. This went on for a year and a half. Uggggh.

Hey - lots of us have been there. Don't sweat it. Your a person, you didn't do anything BAD, you just feel a little embarrased. It'll pass - TRUST ME on that one!

Drunk dial
Drunk email
Drunk IM (my personal downfall)
Drunk text
Drunk order-crap-off-an-infomercial
...and my personal favorite, Drunk-Evite (my brother woke up to find 28 acceptances to a boxed wine-and-cheese whiz party in his inbox the next morning).

Yes, we can wreak a lot of havoc when a few glasses of wine meet our assorted means of electronic communication, but you didn't leave a message and you didn't hook up, so no need to hang your head in shame - or go to the post office next week to mail back some bulky-ass Ab Energizer.

I think phones should be programmed so that you have to pass a breathalizer before calling certain people.

I haven't drank and dialed in a long time (I'm married now) BUT I love all the stories! And it's nice to know I'm not the only one out there still getting drunk!!

6:35 - GREAT idea!!!

I'm not the original poster, but yes, I've been there, done that before. I really applaud all the respondents who have been so supportive and understanding and not berating the poster for her mistake. Kudos!

When I've had a falling out with someone I'll change their name in my phone to "DON'T ANSWER" or "Not Interested" so that I have another little reminder not to talk to them.

I can soooooo top that...

I have been broken up with this guy for over 6 years, I was trashed one night and suddenly decided to search for him via a random online "detective agency." I entered all my info, all of his info (that I remembered) and (like a drunken idiot) gave permission to contact him that I was trying to find him. -So that he would know I was searching for him and for them to give him all of my contact information. I fell asleep, totally forgot about it until... Fast forward to 4 1/2 weeks later when my fiance' is checking our (only) mutual email inbox for confirmation of our wedding reception hall when who else has contacted me?...my ex! He had forwarded the original email I sent him that night and he agreed that, "yes. we did have the BEST sex when we were together", "I miss you like crazy too" and "thank you for the compliment on how big my &^%$ is" Also, "I still think of you too and sure, I would love to 'meet up' soon" turns out, he lives less than 15 minutes away from where my fiance' and I share an apartment and he has been doing "drivebys" for a week trying to catch glimpses of me in the windows!!!! Umm...Listen, I'm in my mid-thirties this just happened november '06. I am still engaged and life just moves on...

We've all been there, OP, reminds me of an old saying. This too shall soon pass. It's probably a good idea to delete the phone number from your mobile, to avoid easy access.
