JELL-O Alternative

If you're not into eating gelatin for health reasons (and there are some good ones), try this alternative with agar (found in health food stores and some grocery stores). Agar also has a mild laxative effect and soothes the digestive tract. It contains no calories.

4 cups apple juice or apple cider (only 100% real juice)
2 teaspoons agar powder (4 tsp. if you're using granular, 6 Tbsp. if you're using kanten flakes)
2 cups sliced, fresh strawberries

Pour the juice into a saucepan and add the agar. Bring to boil over medium heat. Stir to blend and allow to simmer for one minute. Pour into a shallow dish. Add the strawberries evenly. Allow to sit, uncovered, for one hour (best in the fridge).

You can also experiment with other juices and fruits. Agar naturally enhances flavours, so thee's no need to add anything else. Credit where credit is due, this recipe comes from The New Whole Foods Encyclopedia by Rebecca Wood.

Bon appétit!

This website is for people who do weight watchers but even people who don't can enjoy these yummies. They are low in points for WW so they are also low cal, low fat and some high in fiber. Check it out and go to her recipes and you will find tons of different sweets there. Apparently she has quite the sweet tooth.

I like white chocolate mousse with berries

1 pkg SF white chocolate pudding
1.5 cups skim milk
.5 cups lite cool whip
3 cups sliced or whole berries (depending on preference)
1 tsp vanilla (the higher quality the better)

Prepare pudding mix with the milk and whipped topping and spoon 1/2 the mix into the bottoms of 4 goblets, divide 1/2 the fruit among the 4 goblets, add remaining mousse and top with remainder of fruit. Use fresh strawberries, blueberries and raspberries for a lovely sweet and velvety dessert. Nice enough to serve as the end of a gourmet dinner - no one ever guesses this is a 'diet' dessert. It's high in fiber and anti-oxidants.

~130 cal per serving (using the ingredients listed above)

Um, I think the OP specified "good for you." Sad to say, Hershey's kisses don't count.

given the posted nutritional information, the kisses are not a bad choice, but also not a very fulfilling snack. as a once-in-a-while treat, though, i think they look great as an option.

"Not bad for you" does not equal "good for you." They are not healthful, and that was what I was under the impression the OP was looking for.

"Good for ya" is subjective. So is "healthful."

For some, healthful is low-calorie, for others, low-sugar, and for others, maybe it's whatever makes them feel good. My grandparents are in their 90s and I have known them to enjoy a small dessert, like two small oatmeal raisin cookies or a slice of fruit cobbler, after pretty much every lunch and dinner (all balanced, normal-sized meals). I have never known either of them to diet, count calories, weigh their food or even so much as glance at the nutrition info on anything they eat. They just enjoy their foods in moderation.

Maybe if you crave chocolate and eat three Hershey's kisses, it is healthier than forcing yourself to eat something else which you don't really want, or forcing yourself to not eat any treats at all.

Here are some quick facts about chocolate:
A 1.5-ounce milk chocolate bar contains recommended daily values of the following vitamins and minerals:
• 3 grams of protein
• 15% of the Daily Value of riboflavin
• 9% of the Daily Value for calcium
• 7% of the Daily Value for iron

And if you add nuts like almonds or peanuts into the mix, you increase all of the amounts of nutrients listed above.

A Harvard University study found that men who ate chocolate lived one year longer than those who didn’t.

Scientists think that chocolate contains chemicals that help keep blood vessels elastic and increase beneficial antioxidants in the bloodstream, but research is under way and no conclusive results have been found.

Many people eat chocolate when they are sad or feeling down. Others crave the stuff, claiming they are addicted to chocolate’s unique taste and smell. Some even assert that chocolate can relax you, help you lose weight, and even prolong your life.

Are these kisses ingredients healthful?
Sugar, Milk, Cocoa Butter, Soya Lecithin, Vanillin

Is sugar-free pudding really healthful? Ingredients:
Maltodextrin (corn), food starch modified (tapioca and corn), cocoa processed with alkali, potassium phosphate, sodium phosphate, natural and artificial flavors, mono and diglycerides, xanthan gum, aspartame, acesulfame potassium, Yellow 6, Red 40 and Blue 1

I think it's up to you to decide what works best for your diet...

Yummy dessert

I have a hard core sweet tooth too. Try making this yogurt/fruit dessert- lemon yogurt-any brand, raspberries (I usually buy frozen at this time of year) Put in a champagne flute- layer the yogurt and fruit alternatively. I like putting desserts in fun glasses because it makes it special.

Sugar Free Popsicles

I love these popsicles, especially the ones made from diet root beer, diet Dr. Pepper and diet orange. They taste great and are very low calorie. I also like sugar-free jello for a tasty treat too. I have to be very careful of sweets. Some things trigger my sugar addiction and I want to eat the whole box. SF popsicles and jello don't do that so I can have a treat and stop. Thanks to everyone for sharing. I'm going to try several of the recipes listed.

Quick and easy: 1/2 c. of low fat cottage cheese w/ 1 tsp cocoa and a packet of sweetener. Kind of like a lumpy chocolate cheesecake. Low fat, high protein, about 100 cal.

I really like frozen fruit for a snack. Lately it's been strawberries or peaches.
Otherwise just plain old well not old, fruit.
There are some really good rice cakes out there yogurt and berry I believe.
I have also used the Capri Sun Roarin Waters, basically a juice packet but water instead. And though it has sugar in it calorie wise it is only 35. Anyway I freeze it and then squeeze it until it becomes a slushie and eat it with a spoon. Takes me a half an hour and it's only 35 cal.
Oh I love frozen yogurt too. Just take a container of yoplait light and freeze for 60-90 min and it is almost frozen. Great and yummy desert for 100 cal.

angel food cake topped with a mixture of lite whipped topping (can use sf if desired), mix with nonfat sf yogurt and chopped fresh fruit, such as strawberries or raspberries. Looks gorgeous, tastes great. Not sure of calories, but not bad.

4:51- do you mix the ingredients and chill? or do you make the pudding according to package directions (ie, add milk) then add the pumpkin?

I mixed them all and then chilled. might want to use less milk than called for. It is just something I made up this week when I wanted pumpkin pie and my husband was eating real cheesecake- so its not perfect yet.
Last night I added more pumpkin to an individual serving and added a little f/f whipcream. Just having fun
