What do you make your bo for dinner?

One of my co-workers asked me about my "bo" the other day and I had no idea what she was talking about- but now I do, so I say it all the time.

Anyways, I am about to be married and I want to cook dinner for my husband and I on a regular basis. I am wondering what you all cook when you are cooking for two. I cook for myself but it is usually the same thing every night. I really want to make a nice meal for him most nights and have a good variety of different meals that are healthy. Any ideas and or recipes???

Also, please dont comment if you want to make nasty commments about me wanting to cook for my husband. I get done with work much earlier in the day than him and I want to do this for him and myself.

its spelled "beau" but anyway, I live with the PICKIEST EATER! So mostly I just cook chicken in a thousand different ways. He doesnt like beef all that much and I hate pork. So its either chicken or shrimp. But Ive gotten pretty creative with it. My favorite is a hearty chicken stew.

Unless you're black, then it's your "boo."

consider www.savingdinner.com

they have free recipes or you can subscribe to meals by type (freezer, crock pot, low carb, heart healthy, etc). Once I get to my own place (with a real kitchen) I intend to subscribe... just a thought.

good luck.

You could also try the "Cook's Illustrated" magazine...some of their stuff is healthy, but some is not. You can pick the recipes you like! And, they tend to be very straightforward and give you lots of variations on one main recipe. They also emphasize cooking from "whole" (read: not highly processed) foods. I use their magazine and cookbooks all the tiime.

I also think it's totally fine to cook for men...my boyfriend would burn water, but he's excellent at doing the dishes.

Cooking for you partner is wonderful!

I would go for stirfries, stews, chunky salads.

Just be careful, once I started eating every night with my beau, I put on a few pounds because I was eating as much as him!

I love to cook for my boyfriend, too! We take turns cooking for one another.

One great site I use is allrecipes.com - they've got a healthy living section plus they always have the calories and nutritional info with every recipe. The recipes are all rated by the users so you can see which ones are truly the best.

Some ideas for easy/healthy meals:
Chicken Cacciatore
Soups
Any stir-fry recipe is pretty healthy - just go easy on the oil

a good bet is to ask his mother what some of his all time favorites are, and surprise him! maybe he loves his mom's -fill in the blank. he would probably be totally impressed if you made it for him one night, and your sn to be mother- in- law would probably be flattered that you asked for some of her recipes.

I think it's great that you're cooking for your husband! Just because you are a modern woman, doesn't mean you can't take care of your husband!

My husband and I take turns with dinner, but I would love to cook for him all the time-if I had the time!

My favorite dinner to make him is salmon with sweet potatoes and green beens.

2 pieces of salmon with olive oil and honey on them
cover with tin foil
in the oven @ 400 degrees
take out when white and flaky
microwave one large sweet potato
when I can put a knife through it, it's done.
we split that and I put butter (real butter!) and cinnamon on top
fresh green beans, cut the tips off, steam to your liking (we usually steam for 3-5 minutes)

That's it! It takes about 20-25 minutes and it's wonderful!

I would practice cooking for two before you get married-maybe have him over for dinner a few times or even cook for yourself and have leftovers the next day. I cook for my boyfriend a lot (I work part-time and we live together, and i love to cook) and we almost always have leftovers which are great for freezing for meals later or taking for lunch.

Here's an easy chicken marsala recipe that i make all the time. just add a big side of veggies and you are good to go. yummy!! I sometimes use a little chicken stock and less butter to make more of a sauce and take away a few calories.

CHICKEN MARSALA 4 boneless chicken breasts·
1/4 cup all-purpose flour ·
1/2 teaspoon salt·
1/4 teaspoon pepper ·
1/2 teaspoon basil, dried·
3 tablespoons butter or margarine ·
3 tablespoons olive oil ·
4 to 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced (1/2 to 1 cup sliced) ·
1/2 cup Marsala wine

Pound chicken to 1/4" thickness between 2 sheets of plastic wrap. Combine flour, salt, pepper, and basil; mix well. Heat oil and butter in a heavy non-stick skillet over medium high heat. Dredge chicken in seasoned flour mixture. Cook chicken until lightly browned on first side (about 2 minutes). Turn chicken and add mushrooms around the chicken pieces. Cook about 2 minutes more, until lightly browned; stir. Add Marsala wine to pan. Cover and simmer 10 minutes. Serve with hot cooked pasta or rice. (I use german spaetzle noodles-yum!)

I think it is great that you are cooking. A great place to get recipes is at www.cookinglight.com. You do not have to subscribe to the magazine to get access to the recipes and you can browse by type of food, occasion, meal, etc. The recipes are also rated by other people how have tried them which I find helpful.

I love cooking for my husband, and he loves cooking for me too. We mostly cook fish, like salmon or tilapia, usually in a pan with a sauce made of soy sauce or white wine, etc. We kind of make it up. We have sides of green beans often, and sometimes real mashed potatoes or something like that. Sometimes a box of Rice Pilaf or something like that.

One thing I love to make for him, especially when we're feeling junk-food-y is oven-fried chicken wings. It's totally different from all of our fish-and-veggies dishes, which is great once in awhile! I buy bags of frozen wings and drumettes at the grocery store, and just defrost what I'm going to use - usually about 6-8 pieces for me, 8-10 for him (he's not a huge eater; many guys would eat far more). You can also use fresh, I just find that the frozen ones require less cleaning! (to get the feathers/hair off of the ones that you'll buy fresh, light a candle, and burn off the hairs before cooking - works great!)

So, I thaw the chicken in the fridge for about a day or day and a half, and then I spray a cookie sheet with PAM. I put a pile of flour (maybe the size of two fists?) on a plate or piece of tinfoil, and top it with a big sprinkling of Lawry's seasoned salt, and mix that up. I coat the chicken with the flour mix, and put on the cookie sheet. Bake at 425* for 45 minutes, flipping once.

I usually buy wing sauce from Buffalo Wild Wings, just b/c we like it; hubby will toss his wings in a big bowl with some sauce, I just put a little sauce on my dish to dip, with a little fat free ranch dressing. It's like bar food, but not.

Each wing/drumette is about 50 calories, w/o the flour (not a ton of flour sticks), so I figure my 6-8 pieces, with a little dressing and flour, is around 500 calories for dinner.
