How'd you do it?

I love the post asking how much weight have you lost in what time frame.

I'd like to know, if you've lost a significant amount of weight, how did you do it? What do you think was the "key" for you?

There might have been a post like this in the past. If so, I'm sorry. I'm new. Ü

I've lost 23 and a 1/2 pounds and I attribute the loss to many things
- portion, portion, portion. I didn't elminate anything.
- my groupmates on PT
- my mirror in my bedroom closet
- not listening to my boyfriend tell me that he liked me bigger
- writing everything down.

I've lost 10lbs in 8 weeks.
I joined a gym and go 5 days a week.
I made my diet healthier but did not cut out all "bad" foods as I have done that previously and couldn't deal with the cravings and then the guilt when I gave into them.

I second portion control! That was the key for me.

I lost my 20 pounds with healthy eating and exercise. I didn't cut ANYTHING out of my diet and achieved my goals. I eat "bad" foods occasionallly and in small portions.

OP,
don't worry if you start a new thread. The old ones get incredibly long, and usually get off track. Some of us prefer to be able to comment anew. However, there is a search option up at the top that sometimes helps you to find old threads.

What Has Worked for Me

LOG, LOG, LOG Everyday, honestly.
Portion Control
Team mates
Liver and colon detoxing.

I always was pretty active, so that did not really change, but it is very important. If you lose weight without exercise, you lose both muscle and fat. When you gain anything back (and fluctuations are normal) you are gaining fat but no muscle. So your body gradually becomes fatter and fatter, even while staying about the same weight. Plus it helps with bone density, which staves off skeletal issues as you age. So don't skip the phys ed!

Good luck,
mariarose

Counting calories, weight lifting in addition to serious cardio - I used a heart-rate monitor and found out that I often overestimated how hard I was working. Sometimes a 20 min walk would only burn about 80 calories... it's something, but not as effective as 40 minutes of tae-bo (300 calories) or 60 min of running (500 calories).

95lbs loss in 1 year and 1 week-

Burn more than you take in. I workout 5 mornings a week and do classes twice a week (spinning and kickbox) after work. I burn about 1200 cal in the am and take in 1000-1100/day.

I give myself a cheat day too.. so something to look forward to.

Exercise, diet alone will not do it.
Positive attitude
Realizing that weight doesn't go on, or come off in a day
Tracking weight loss to see where I've been and if I stay at that path where I will be going.

If you don't mind my asking, did you have any problems with loose abdominal skin after such a big weight loss?

I've lost 10lbs in about 5 weeks.

What works: I signed up for a 1/2 marathon and told everyone I knew that I was doing it. Now I have no choice but to train and train hard (race is May 19th).

Since I've started training I've watched the pounds fall off and I have since signed up for a marathon in June.

Note: I have never run at any level and just started running in Feb. I started by walking and jogging 1-3 miles.

Thanks,
Yes, I do have extra skin now that is not going anywhere. I started doing weights right before the holidays.. I am building more mussel in my upper arms.. but under arms are still flappy. Not really sure what to do about it.

Any suggestions.. My user name on PT is missy1132
(can you search my log by that?)
