rachael ray and dunkin donuts

she's supposedly now helping to develop new 'better for you" options? What will those be, squash donuts? She was quoted as saying "having grown up in the northeast, I have a deep appreciation for dunkin donuts" What does that mean. She gets on my nerves. Why is she so admired?

I think she's admired (not that I've ever seen her show, this is just my impression) precisely because she's "just like normal folks." You know, she can admit she likes a non-gourmet doughnut.

Hey, I'm from New England. I like Dunkin' Donuts. Doesn't mean I eat 'em every day -- more like the one a year I have, I REALLY appreciate. Having plebian tastes or the occasional fattening treat isn't a moral failing.

grrrr

she gets on my nerves, too. Ick.

How 'bout some muffins that aren't the size of a cabbage? Or "low fat" muffins that have less than the 13 grams of fat that they currently have?

Donuts are actually one of the "lightest" items on their menu. I stick with my working class coffee with milk and splenda. :-)

i like rachel ray, but i detest dunkin donuts! their coffee has stopped tasting like coffee the last few years. I refuse to go there now.

I also think it's the DnD coffee that New Englanders are so wild about.

I agree with you- I got a $15 gift card over christmas for Dunkin Dounuts and I tried their coffee twice and throught they were both terrible. I ended up getting dounut holes for my kids and not getting anything for me there.

Amen on the Dunkin Donuts coffee. We used to mail order their coffee beans and grind them fresh in our house for the most divine coffee on the planet. But when I revived our mail order subscription recently, the coffee tasted ho-hum and I cancelled our order.

(actually, I still drink dunkin donuts coffee, too! I'm fairly easy to please!)

A Dunkin' Donut is around 250 calories. I have one pretty much every Friday, AS my breakfast. I know that my coworkers bring in pastries on Fridays, so I skip my breakfast at home in favor of ONE pastry at work. I get to indulge in the treat, and not just stand by watching others indulge. And, it's actually a little lower in calories than my normal breakfast. Sure, it doesn't keep me full quite as long, but, since I eat it later, it evens out. Dunkin' Donuts is not the devil, nor are the donuts themselves (though maybe the 700-calorie muffins are!) Rachael Ray is great, she seems like a real everything-in-moderation kind of girl!

OP, you are bitter

She's admired for being perky and normal, so not the usual celeb.

She has a positive outlook, she's bubbly, and the girl can cook!

What's your beef with her? Do you take what people say literally?

Lighten up LOSER.

Oh, god. The irony of the last poster saying to "lighten up." Thanks for the giggle.

30-minute Meals

I liked her show when she was making 30-minute meals. She made easy, nutritious meals and I learned some good tricks from her. I'm a visual learner so it was helpful for me to watch how she does things. I agree with the other posters that she's popular because she's like your neighbor next door (if you are lucky enough to have a neighbor like her). She seems easy to talk to and has a fun outlook on life.

I can say she annoys me, too. I think it's because she's a tad overexposed - she has what, three shows on Food Network, a talk show AND a magazine? She's fine...in small doses.

I can't stand to listen to her talk. The food I've seen her prepare (not that I've watched that many programs because, as I said, I can't stand to listen to her talk) don't seem all that healthy to me. I'm not a fan. I'm not a hater, but I'm not a fan!

We are always catching the tail end of her show because we record Alton Brown's Good Eats. My DH always asks "How does she stay so trim looking? Look at what she's eating!" I've watched a couple of her shows and I will have to say that I think she's starting to put on a little around her middle. She better watch out!

I will have to say that some of her food looks great but a lot of it turns me off. I think her approach - the folksy, quick meals is really for those folks who want to still cook but just can't find the time. I've seen a couple tips I like but it's not enought to make we want to record her show.

Now - Good Eats - Alton makes no claims to be a diet person. He want's good food and while most of it I don't like, I love to watch his shows for the science behind the cooking. It's fascinating that you can bake a choco chip cookie three ways and have 3 types of cookies. : )

She never claims that all her meals are healthy but can be done in 30 min. I think people like her because she is a real person, just like all of us. I do admit her voice can get on your nerves but overall I like her. I love her show about eating out for $40 a day. I've actually gone to some of those places. And lets face it, she cooks with stuff that most everybody has on hand. She doesn't poopoo using canned foods or taking short cuts.

I watched the show twice to see what was cooking. Her voice is very grating and she actually got on my nerves. That long hair flying around did make me wonder how many fly in her food?

I love Rachael Ray and I love donuts. (Can't remember the last time I had Dunkin Donuts in particular.) I have learned a ton about cooking from her and cook healthier because of her. Maybe part of what I like about Rachael Ray is her "everything in moderation" approach, which is how I lost 60 lbs. and kept it off. I eat chocolate daily, among other things.
