why do you hate your body so much?

my husband and i were talking about superfood this morning and how good it is. I said, i know, i used to drink it all the time, i used to do wheatgrass shots too. I said, i used to be really healthy. He replied, "why do you hate your body so much?"
That sentence threw me for a loop. I stopped what I was doing and repeated the sentence over and over, why do I hate my body so much? Why do I eat the junk I do? I can't stop thinking about it.

that is a great question. I don't hate my body consciously, but my actions hurt my body.

my comment was REMOVED!! i seek knowledge, but not because i hate my mind and i seek to improve my body, but not because i hate it. maybe if i word it differently it will be acceptable? i also asked if the OP had a response to the question. why was my comment removed? there was nothing even remotely offensive about it???!!! is anyone offended by the comments i just now wrote? please tell me so i can understand what is permissable and what is not.

Overeating rarely has anything to do with hating your body. It's a coping mechanism that affects your body, much as alcohol or tobacco or drugs.

And besides, wheatgrass tastes nasty. It's not really an intellectual stretch to understand why you don't down shots of that anymore :)

to 12:38:

I don't think that the op means that she overeats because she hates her body, i think she is trying to say that by eating poorly, eating junk food, and not feeding her body properly, she is essentially "hating" her body because she isn't giving it the treatment it really deserves to have (healthy, nutritious food).

1:00 - yes. this is what i meant. i know i should be feeding my body with the best foods available, but i keep eating junk. i see perfectly good choices on a menu, fish and vegetables, salads and they probably taste great. instead, i order a cheeseburger. if you feed your body junk, you must not respect it very much. i used to and i don't know.

this is a great question to ask yourself before eating something totally unhealthy. I hadn't thought of that question this way before. I always saw it physically directed. It's true tho, if we did pick the 'best' things to eat, our bodies would be at thier best! It's a new mantra when I'm craving something 'bad' thanks!

That's the right question to ask before eating disgusting BAD for you food, not healthy stuff. Be an adult- you need to eat stuff that may not taste great all the time. So what? It's a small price to pay for your health.

If it were that easy, none of us would need this site.

Excellent question!! We should all remember this every time we put crappy fuel into our bodies. Hearing this question has really made an impact on me.

Crappy food is often easy, fast and it tastes good. It's the path of least resistence. Eating healthy takes a lot of work (reading labels, keep fresh produce washed and on hand, eating salads when you eat out and others are devouring lasagne) or a lot of money (if I had an extra $25K a year, I'd just hire a personal shopper/chef). It's WORTH IT though to be active and healthy for life.

I think eating healthy is hard work at first. However, I eat mostly the same things from week to week and I remember all the nutritional values and what portion sizes to eat so it's really very simple for me now. Also loading up on fruit and veggies doesn't require much label reading! I agree with the last poster though, it is SO worth it!
I don't hate my body at all after losing my weight, I will tell you that is worth it every minute of every day!

love your body / love your "self"

This is the hard part right? Sometimes when you're stressed or grumpy, you need the lift of a chocolate chip cookie -- even though it's the last thing your body needs. I think the trick is learning to be kind to yourself in other ways, so that being kind to your body isn't being mean to yourself. IMO, a lot of the people who can manage restrictive "healthy" diets are using their body self-hatred to do it. So how do you do it with self-love?
PS -- Was the bf joking? Seriously, you hate your body because you're not drinking wheatgrass?! Maybe you need a more maintainable way to eat healthy.

The question about hating your body is just so strange. Based on the few sentences of the OP, it seems like a really loaded question and it sounds very accusatory / judgemental/ non supportive.

The question would haunt me too if it came from someone who was very mindful about their lifestyle. If it came from someone who doesn't really take care of themselves, then I would really be confused as to why they asked the question in the first place.
