Does anybody belong? what do you think of it?

my mom belonged to tops when i was younger... honestly, i didn't see much going on there unless it was just the chapter she belonged to. i used to go to meetings with her, all i noticed were chubby old ladies getting excited they lost an 1/8 or 1/4 of a pound that week because they took their shoes off before weigh-in. then after the meetings where they talked about dues, they'd all meet up at a steakhouse afterwards and pig out on fried 1/2 chickens and country fried steaks.... like i said, it was probably the chapter my mom belonged to.

good luck, i hope you find success with whatever you try!

I really dislike it. It feels like it's a group to celebrate being fat.

I remember my Mom did this too!

I remember my Mom went to TOPS too! I thought this was something through church that someone made up - haver never heard anyone else mention it.

All of the memories of my Mom were of her dieting and having food logs on the fridge....yet she was almost always heavy! It got into my psyche so much that I remember teachers making comments about how 'little girls..don't need to diet'. I was in 2nd ro 3rd grade and must have been talking about it.

It wasn't until I got out of my parents house, in cold central Maine, with a plethora of snacks and high fat foods always availalbe and a 'square meal' freshly prepared with plenty of extras that I gained a healthy perpective on portion control and a healthy diet.

Certianly couldn't say that I saw TOPS do anything for my Mom's actual long-term weight loss or her knowledge of what constituted a healthy eating lifestyle.

i think it might depend on the actual group..the group here is pretty decent and takes the gain/loss pretty seriously. there is about 5 that have reached and maintain their goal weight that attend reguarly which helps feel like its possible to do.

My dad is in this program at the moment and has been for over ten years...same thing as the other posters said. He hasn't lost any weight during this time and it's more of a social group that goes out together and eats huge meals after weigh ins...he has met some wonderful people though.

I could be wrong but actuall WW was like what the last poster said to me but I lost about 10lbs and would maintain it! Once I quit back came the 10ls plus another 10. I think I am going to try it! I will keep you posted. Plus on thier website they have 2 great success stories! OP

to the original poster My mom and I belonged to Tops years ago. I disagree that all tops chapters as they are called are just social groups. the one I belong to really cared about healthy living and weight loss. the dues and money put in is not as bad as some groups like jenny craig and such..

the only thing I will say is it does work. but wether it works for you is like any other thing including fit day pt. whatever you do you have to put yourself into it. its up to you to make it work. you have to make the healthy choices to watch what you eat and exercise. alot have successfully lost weight with Tops but its the individuals drive to want to become a thinner healthier person that makes it work..
and to all the paranoid people I am not affiliated with tops now. It was when I was a kid. so I am not promoting them. just sharing My experience
