Genes and losing weight.

Just because something is printed in the NY TIMES doesn't mean it's the end all. Don't use "poor genes" to neglect your health and as a reason to stay overweight.

I come from a long line of obese women. My grandmother died from a stroke, she was 5'2 and over 200 lbs. I am now 50 and have worked out for over 20 years, the full gamet...cardio, weight training, Pilates, yoga. I eat a fairly clean diet. Still I have a problem with weight, especially around the middle. A little more on the scale each year. But I look at my relatives and know it would be much worse if I didn't do what I'm doing. I don't have diabetes or heart disease like family members even younger than me.

I smile when I hear women talk about this or that diet. They miss the point. This is not something you are doing until you get to the size you want..you are doing this FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Sure you'll have special occasions and have cake or whatever but you know tomorrow (or the day after) you are going back to your normal routine. Once you get to that point it makes things somewhat easier.
