I drink Diet Pepsi or Diet Coke rather that regular, but I read somewhere that artificial sweeteners slow down weight loss because they are not natural so the body has to work harder to break them down. Any opinions or experiences?

I've never heard that; where did you hear it?
In my opinion, diet soda has chemicals, which are bad. Regular soda has a ton of calories, and also a bunch of chemicals (but maybe a little bit fewer) which are bad. I go for the diet over the regular, but only when I really want it. I don't use it as a staple. I try to drink more water, or tea or coffee, to minimize the chemicals.
Regular soda has enough calories that it can definitely slow down weight loss (or cause weight gain). Diet soda may or may not hinder weight loss. I'll take maybe over definitely. But, that's just my opinion.
