Natural Beauty Recipes

When I first started losing weight I switched to organic foods because I found out about all the preservatives and chemicals that are found in processed foods. Since then I've also questioned my use of conventional make-up...

Do any of you use alternative make-up or alternatives to beauty masks? What about fragrance and essential oils?

I use coconut oil on my skin, but not on my face since it's too greasy.

I don't use exclusively organic beauty care, but I love Burt's Bees products. Whole Foods has a huge selection of very expensive organic cosmetics and beauty products. Trader Joe's carries many "private label" versions of those products - meaning they are the same product with the TJ's name on them, sold for cheaper.

there's a ton of beauty recipies on Honey.com . I haven't tried any of them (I'm a guy) but I was thinking of making a few of them for my wife... figure she could use some pampering.

That would be so cool if you made some for your wife! I buy beauty products at Whole Foods. Too expensive though. I'm going to check out honey.com

I make my own soap. My daughter was having some real issues with allergies that would present as eczema or dry scaly patches and some would crack open and bleed. I was also having trouble with intense itching when I would step out of the shower. So I researched online and found some great recipes, bought the stuff and made our first batch. It was such a hit with everyone that I have people asking all the time when I will make more. I will warn you that it is time consuming but well worth it. Plus you make about 1 years worth of soap at a time. Because you are dealing with lye (yes, the caustic stuff) you have to be careful and use protective gear while making it. I think my neighbors began to suspect I had a meth lab! I also researched the best ingredients for our skin and choose to do all vegetable soaps. Anyway, if you're not up to making your own you can by those type of products on lush.com. The internet is a fabulous resource for natural beauty product recipes.
