Is setting a goal setting yourself up

I set a goal to lose 3lbs this week. I did not lose 3 but 1. Even though I know 1 in better than 0 how do you stop yourself from feeling like a failure. By the way I HATE THE SCALE!!!

set realistic goals. 3 pounds is the top end of weight loss a week in My experience for most people. I also dont use the scale usually but once a month. a number is just that. do not get discouraged. a pound is not easy to lose. be proud of that. keep up the great work you will get there 1 pound at a time.

Thanks

I love this site. Even though my best friend and boyfriend are supportive neither are over weight and I feel silly talking about some of my issues.

1 lb is really a good weight loss. 1 to 2 lbs is reasonable. I lost 40 lbs last year and only averaged a little more than a 1/2 pound a week. Get a digital scale and whenever it goes down at all celebrate your success. You'll never lose any weight lamenting how much further you have to go, but if you celebrate every small success you'll keep your spirits up for the long haul.

Setting goals

As a Physical educator and Personal Development teacher I must suggest that the world is over run with the idea that the scales matter. They are a guide to where you are - not the overall answer. With any weight loss plan there are going to be good and bad weeks where your body will loose more or less depending on the activity regime and diet intake. Allow your body to figure it out slowly and work toward the goal of being healthier and not a weight. Keep up the work and monitor what you intake and enjoy life.
