Good question... I lift my heels I find it works out my calfs really well but I have bad knees so I would love to know if this is a good thing to do or not.

I keep my heels off the platforms unless I lower the machine from a 12 to an 8 or so... Also, I will keep my heels on them if I am going backward too, but that's about it!
If you keep your heels doen though, you will feel it in your hamstrings.

Unless you are specifically working your calves, try to keep your heels down. Much like wearing high heels, keeping your heels off the ground/platform can shorten your achilles tendon and tighten your hamstrings (tighten, not tone), which can also lead to low back pain and hip issues.
