Dancing to lose weight

Has anyone tried dancing to lose weight? Tap, hiphop, ballroom? I think it would be fun but for now I want to start alone in my home. Any video suggestions? Also - does anyone have the "Dance Revolution" game for Xbox or one of those types of games? Would this be a good option for exercise?

I have Dance Dance Revolution for Playstation 2. It's really fun, but it does take a good deal of practice to get good. During the time when you're not all that good, you're probably not getting a ton of exercise, though you are up on your feet, moving around, which is good. Once you get good, after a few months of practicing pretty much every day, you'll be able to do the fast songs with lots of jumps, etc., and it's definitely a cardio exercise at that point!

However, on a side note, if you have a dog, he/she may not really "let" you play! Our puppy always wants to be under our feet, so we have not been able to play since we got her. If you have the option of closing the animal in another room or having another family member watch him, then it could work. Just wanted to throw that out there, though, before you spend the money on the system!
