I hear so much about all the "right" exercises to do, how often, how much.. but going to the gym at least 4 times a week.. doing at least a half hour of cardio is better than nothing right?

Any efforts you are making to get yourself moving are good! Start with what you can do, then notice how much more you are capable of as your fitness level improves. I started out with an hour of water aerobics 3 days a week back in the day. Now, there isn't an area of the gym I haven't tried out and a 1 1/2-2 hour workout isn't outside my grasp! Bottom line: As your desire to see specific results increases, so will your willingness to put in the work.
