How to build muscle

I'm a guy who has lost some weight, and gotten back into shape. I run, lift a little. Now I want to start building muscle. What is the best general approach to take to build muscles? should I try for a lot of weight, a lot of reps or some combination? Do I need to really push myself to the limit?

If you want to build muscle I suggest you lift heavy and do few reps and do 4 sets...so for example let's say you start out with 20lbs and do 12 reps and then go up to 25 lbs and do only 10 reps, then go up to 30lbs and do only 8 reps and for your last set go to 35lbs and do only 6 reps...that will help you build muscle and make sure you stay up on your protein

The book, "Body for Life" by Bill Phillips is really helpful. It's easy to follow and REALLY works- if you do it!

BFL works great for building muscle mass and reshaping the body. Give it a shot OP, you'll love the results!

Yep, doing body for life right now and it's working great. I'm consistently adding five to ten pounds to my workout every week.
