I'd recommend against it. I can't imagine that there are any positive health benefits to wearing plastic when working out.

I'm pretty sure this comes from the whole exercising in a sauna idea. The extra weight you lose is water weight from all the extra sweating you're doing, it's temporary and will dehydrate you. I saw a "sauna suit" being sold at target the other day that was basically a glorified trash bag and it said it would help you lose more weight (water) and keep your muscles warm while exercising. I reccommend against it, although seeing you running down the street in a trash bag might give the neighbors a laugh.

Do you remember Martin Lawrence collapsing in the street a few years back??

You lose water weight - all gained right back once you're hydrated.

My friend knew someone who actually died this way. The heat caused the chemicals from the plastic to seep into her skin, and it poisoned her.

If you want to sweat off weight, you could try running in hot weather (not sure what the weather is like near you, but it IS almost July) or a sauna...

I wouldn't use a trash bag, but you can actually get a sauna suit from Walmart. I used to do that in college, but it made me sick. I wouldn't eat salt, barely drank any water, and then exercise to the point of exhaustion. It works a little, but it is very dangerous. I work with a guy who always uses a sauna top but he does it for body building, not fitness.

the whole idea is to generate more sweat..when you make more heat you generate more sweat...generating sweat burns calories not a ton more but some.keeping yourself hydrated while doing this would be a good idea tho.the whole idea of using the suit is pulled from boxing/wrestling weight in pre-workouts.. they dehydrate themselves the day of weight in to get in the weight class they want...ohhh as for the laugh for the neighbors....wear it under the hoody...and if you don't want it on your skin wear a long sleave shirt under it.. still works by holding heat in.. + gives you a good sponge to absorb the sweat

i lost 30 pounds in two months and i was loosing 2 pounds a day with baggin (as i call it).and i am still fit, and that was the summer of 2009. when you do any exercise that makes you sweat your supose to drink water anyway it's a life long fact. when you bag it makes you sweat and sweat is fat that your body cant, wont, or dosnt absorb and turn into waste. i PROMIS if you just drink water youll be fine. you wont become over dehidrated, and you wont look like an idiot. if you find it inbarassing well who cares i felt like an idiot but look at me now.=) who cares youll look good when your done. i promis it works!

The weight you're losing is water weight. You won't lose any more fat than you would running without the bag. Fighters do it to cut weight so they can fight in a lower weight class, giving themselves an advantage. It's not something the average person should do for the purpose of weight loss.

There might be other benefits though... like ridding your body of toxins and clearing your pores or things like that. Be careful though. You could give yourself heat stroke which is really not fun and could actually kill you if it's severe enough.
