water over coke

This is really an eye opener...Water or Coke?
We all know that water is important but, I've never seen it written down like this before.

WATER
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.

2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

3. Even MILD dehydration will ! slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer
by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is
50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

And now for the properties of
COKE:

1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of
coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two
days.

3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let
the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in
Coke removes stains from vitreous China.

4.To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a
rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of
Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion. (We have done this before - it works)

6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the
rusted bolt for several minutes.

7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan,
wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is
finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

8. To remove grease from clothes: Emp! ty a can of coke into a load of
greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The
Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains.

9. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

For Your
Info:

1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.

2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must
use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for Highly corrosive materials.

3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years! Now the question is, would you like a coke or a glass of water?

Have A Great Day and Share It With Others Do you still want a coke

Incredible....thanks!

Incredible!!!! I encourage my friends and loved ones to stop drinking Coke...actually soda. Now I have this wonderful list. I quit drinking Diet Coke about a decade ago....not an easy task... There is an addictive quality to it. Once I got past the cravings I have never looked back!

How about Pepsi or Mountain Dew?

Is there such a thing as the least harmful soft drink or are they all awful?

I think the clear ones are less harmful than the dark ones, so, Sprite or 7-Up.

This is total, unfiltered BS.

Except it's all bunk... this stuff is known as Cokelore, and it's been floating around the internet for years. check out this link-

http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/acid.asp

Mythbusters recently did a show on cokelore and concluded that most of it is, in fact, total BS.

There are better reasons for not drinking sodas than these BS reasons- high sugar content, high calories, etc.

I challenge the OP to actually try ANY of these tricks (except the ham cooking- that just seems like an icky recipe)- Heck, I dare you to take a 2 liter bottle of coke and spray it on the engine of your car and see if it actually cleans it. I'm betting your mechanic will thank you for trying it.

Find me an actual doctor who will coroborate the "coke causes osteoporosis" nonsense. Seriously. You fine me an article in a reputable scientific or medical journal that says coke causes osteoporosis. Bet you can't, because they don't exist.

Bunk, BS, garbage, fake science. Don't like coke, don't drink it, but don't pass on stupid urban legends.

it's totally true. my dad is an electrician and comes across old, cloth-covered wiring in many older homes. the wiring is usually corroded and difficult to access. he pours coke on a rag and soaks the cloth that covers the wires. it eats away at the corrosion in about 30 minutes. and it definitely works on car batteries, too! i have done this! as far as cooking, coke is used in many restaurants as a meat tenderizer and in marinaeds galore. it breaks down ribs and makes them tender as can be. it's not BS, as has been suggested.

I can also cook fish in lemon juice with no heat (it's called a ceviche, and it's one of the tastiest chemical reactions ever)- does that mean that when I drink lemonade, I'm cooking myself?

And why is it always COKE? Pepsi is virtually identical to coke, yet no one ever mentions it in these urban legends, Seven Up contains just as much carbonation (that's yer phosphoric acid) and even more citric acid, so you'd think it would be even more dangerous... Heck, with the deadly combination of citric acid, alcohol and phosphoric acid, you'd think that a gin and tonic would be served in a special lead-lined glass or something.

Take a freaking chemistry class.

B. U. N. K. Bunk.

yes, you are cooking your insides.
we read your opinion. thanks. try not to take over the thread by reposting your belief that coke does not do what the op claims. you've contributed, there's no need to debate the issue after each new posting.

11:45- that is easilly the scariest thing I've ever read.

What you're saying is, "look, we don't care about facts and evidence, we'd much rather put our faith in old wive's tales."

How dare I post something that dissagrees with you? I should be ashamed of myself.

look, i am sharing my first hand experiences with coke (the electrician's daughter and chef, here), and that's the fact and the evidence on which i am basing my support of the op's opinion. it's great that you shared your opposing opinion, but you don't need to go on and on disagreeing with other people's experience. where are your failed experiment's results? when did you marinate meat in coke and it didn't tenderize it? have you ever removed corrosion from anywhere with coke? just because you have not had the same experiences does not mean that they are fake or "old wive's tales". the thread is about coke specifically, hence the emphasis on it and not pepsi or 7up. sorry to scare you.

Thanks for sharing and reminding us how important to stay hydrated correctly.
The main idea of the post was how important water is and that message was received. thanks : )

To the snopes poster, and OP

Yes, these chain mail lists have been floating around the internet for years.

But the osteoporosis link may have some merit:
http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/healthnews.php?newsid=53642

My dentist tells me that soda is terrible for your teeth - it's not the sugar content, but the chemicals, that weaken the dentin.

And there are other studies about cola consumption and decrease in bone density.

Just one look at the ingredients should be all you need to choose not to drink Coke, or any other cola, unless sparingly.

Hey, thanks for the link! I take it back, it's not fake science. Hopefully, there's nothing bad in the crow I'm eating at the moment...

It's especially interesting that it's cola drinks in specific, not soda drinks in general... that would mean that there is something in cola drinks that isn't present in soda drinks...

Nice to know that as a guy, I'm apparently immune to it's effects...

or as a guy, your "kind" have not been included in the studies. It's all about what gets funded.

If you do an advanced search on Google and only seek results from domains that end in " .edu " you can get a lot of study information. It's pretty cool.

Also - I LOVE SNOPES. I can't help but zip friends when they send me another "forward this email and Microsoft will send you $100" email chain letter.

I personally have used soda to clean the toilet. Not just coke, any kind. It's the acid. I recall the car talk radio guys talking about pouring a can of coke on a coroded battery.
