Safest Station Wagons?

I was googling this morning to look at safe cars and was surprised to not being able to find a decent list of what the safest station wagons are right now. The search results list a lot of individual cars. Ford, BMW, Audi etc-- those of you who have been through this drill-- what have you learned about this that you could share? I really appreciate any help.

I don't know if they still make these, but any station wagons with rear-facing seats that fold up out of the trunk are not safe! Or, at least those seats are not safe.

when i was searching for a safe station wagon, i went to the library and checked out consumer reports. the hundai elantra wagon got 5-star crash-safety ratings. i'm sure the volvo is super-safe, too. that's what the marketing wants you to believe anyway! consumer reports online costs money i think, that's why i went to the library and used the consumer reports magazines.

check out edmunds.com and kkb.com (kelley blue book)-both are really helpful sites when you are choosing any car. You can find ratings on safety, and also tips for getting the best price and a million other helpful bits! I stumbled across them when looking for a new car and it made me so much more confident when actually going out and making a deal! I'm sure you'll be able to find some info on station wagons on either site.

I just recently bought a Ford Freestyle. It's classified as a wagon, but called a "crossover" vehicle. It's got 3 rows of seating, but handles like a car and gets pretty good gas mileage. It's gotten great crash test ratings and good reviews. The underpinnings are all Volvo, and it shows. The doors are super thick and it just feels extremely safe.
