Re: BP & Cholesterol Meds

I am 5'2" and have lost 14 lbs. in the last 6 weeks. (From 182 to 168 lbs). I am currently on medication for high blood pressure and cholesterol, which I am certain are both directly caused by my obesity. At what point do I go back to the doc to re-evaluate the need for these meds? I don't want to continue taking them if I don't need them, but I'm not sure if I've improved my health enough with my diet and lifestyle changes thus far.

Don't stop taking them unless you have had your blood tested and your cholesterol is in normal/good ranges and your doctor has checked your blood pressure several times and it is normal. These conditions are not always because of your weight/diet, they are often caused by genetics too. I am at a healthy weight, and eat very healthy and I have to be on BP meds.

If yours is caused by diet and weight, I'm not sure 14 lbs would be enough to get you off meds and it would take more than 6 weeks for your cholesterol to be affected (not trying to discourage you, just being realistic here!). I would give it 6 months of consistent diet/exercise changes and go see your doctor then.
