"What Black Men Think"

I just caught an interview on CSPAN of Janks Morton, who made a new documentary/film called What Black Men Think. Very interesting in that it debunked a lot of the common stereotypes we hold as a society. For example, there is a common belief that there are more black men in jail than in college. He showed how this was not true, and that for black men 18-24 years old, the ratio of those in college to those incarcerated is about 4.5 to 1. There are other myths exposed I guess, and I need to see the film, but as someone who is not black and is frankly extremely removed from the culture, I found this very illuminating.

ick-9:35 . . .you're a perfect example of why so many people don't visit the lounge here anymore. useless troll.

I personally find most documentaries fascinating . . .is this film going to be only in select theaters or will they be showing it on some channels?

Ok, this may be interesting, but probably only to black men. Also, this does not belong on PT.

Also, I'm sure that black men arn't thinking about what percentage of them are in jail. I think most of them are thinking about some girl's big booty.

How do you know what Black men are thinking? Many of them do think about the troubles of their brothers not big behinds.

To the OP;

Thank you for trying to bring an intelligent topic to PT. There are a lot of threads that don't belong on PT such as the thread about what type of "hairstyle" one has down there.

Anyway, it's important for everyone to watch programs like that. There is more to Black men than what people see in music videos and the news. Unfortunately that's where most of the world get their "ideas" about them. It's also a great documentary for all those Black men who gave up on their ambitions because of these so-called statistics that basically say their future is hopeless.

Statistics don't lie, take that for what you will.

1:57 What???!!! That is about the most naive thing I've seen on this board. You can get statistics to say ANYTHING you want,and it all sounds good to the layperson out there who doesn't get the whole picture.

Thank you OP for bringing this to us. I still remember being attacked in "do you believe in stereotypes topic", for defending an open mind. I couldn't believe how many people said that sterotypes not only okay, but the way to be. There you go. Just another example of "that there is nothing more dangerous than ignorance in action"
