Exercising while sick?

I have had a nasty cold (sore throat, congestion, aches and pains, cough) for going on 4 days now. This whole time I have felt too awful to do anything but lie in bed. Today I feel marginally better, and I am feeling guilty for how off track my exercise plan I am now. In the past, I let little things like this totally through me off course. So my question is - how early should I start exercising again? I don't want to make myself sicker, but I don't want to go a whole week without working out! What should I do?

Better to rest up when your body is sick. A week off won't derail you if you are comitted, AND I've found that some of my biggest losses occur when I'm taking a week off. Your body just needs to catch up.

If you do feel like you really MUST exercise. I wouldn't advise anything more than walking.

I completely agree with 11.14. Many years ago I had a minor cold. At the time I was doing around 5-6 aerobics classes a week. I didn't stop the exercise. I also went abroad to visit a friend and do some work. During my time running around Europe over the course of two weeks I became hugely dehydrated without realising it, and ultimately ended up with a kidney infection that put me out of work for about 6 weeks - it was horrible - really painful! Had I given my body a chance to calm down, I probably would have been all right. Wait until you stop hurting and normal exercise is not an effort before you push yourself.
