Cranky people on threads

Why are there so many people on this website that are so negative, cranky and totally rude to others? This is supposed to be a site for motivation, health and fitness. Stop being so negative and stop putting down other people that don't have your view! Open your mind!

I've been a member since early July and I've definitey noticed, and have been shocked by, the blatent rudeness on this site. I used to post regularly on a different message board where we all had a certian breed of dog in common. I stopped visiting that site because of the extreme nastiness and negativity there too.

Unfortunately, I think it's a statement on the world today: People aren't very nice to eachother. Also, the fact that posts are completely anonymous (as opposed to showing our user name) encourages people to be a little more reckless with their comments.

People depriving themselves of the foods they love are naturally cranky!!! Yes, all the damn time!!!

to poster 1:25, not everyone on this board is here because of weight loss, some are here to track workouts and maintain.
So we can assume from your comments that only the dieting people are hateful?

i agree that the asumption is incorrect. i have not deprived myself of any foods i love. i sometimes bet a bit b*tchy when i read a comment that reeks of stupidity. i know it's just my opinion that makes me perceive the comment that way, that it is not a FACT that the comment is stupid, but i get rattled anyway. i try to keep myself in check, and sometimes feel like i am, only to read a response that asks "WTF?" about what i've shared. it's not intentional, just like in real life. i think people with strongly-held opinions who suddenly found an outlet to express them on topics ranging from foot odor to maintaining a weight-loss are excitied to just spout off. that's my story, anyway.

No, 11:50, a lot of the rabid skinnies on this website seem to enjoy spitting venom at those of us here for weight loss. Self-image? Eating disorder-based food deprivation? Take your pick.

yikes. looks like we've got a live one, folks!! is there a reason that you're being so rude, 1:04??

1:25 - if you're cranky because of the food plan you're on, you need to get a new one. I've been 'dieting' (lifestyle change!) for 3 months, and am not cranky at all. Sometimes I get craving something, but I find a small portion size substitute, or just give in and have some and then move on. More importantly, I'm 30 lbs down, feel better and have more energy, am happier when I look in the mirror, and don't feel as dependent on having certain foods to make me happy. Why would this make me naturally cranky?

What's rude about my 1:04 comment? I've seen threads where someone is called a fat lazy porker or similar by a poster who didn't like hearing that there was something wrong with wanting to be 110 lbs at 5'11". I think it's valid to refer to that person as a "rabid skinny", and it constitutes an example of thread crankiness from someone other than unhappy fat folks. I was being blunt and colorful, but not rude. If I suggested that you check a dictionary before using words you don't have a full grasp of, that might be a little rude.

Cranky people..

I think most people online hide behind the anonymity.. And unfortunately, too many people do not use that for good but for evil.. It's a form of cyber-bullying like in schools and among teens only some people never grow out of it.. A lot of people write and say things online they would never say or or have the guts to pull off if you were standing in front of them..

232 here. the commentor above me asked what was rude about her comment made at 104. i wasn't just throwing out insults haphazardly. i was trying to answer her inquiry, hence the detailing of what i found to be rude. sorry to turn the thread around. not my intent. isn't that ironic!? in my attempt to be funny but real, i also ended up being perceived as rude!! oops!

Wow! See what I mean.......it just goes to show you that that bitterness is everywhere and it's never going to go away. I agree with one of the first responders that it's just a sign of society today. I am never starving and I have made the choice to live healthier. Heck I eat junk but by no means do I get cranky because of food. Other women on this site will know that pms, etc. can get you cranky but find a better outlet for it....say perhaps a stroll around the neighborhood, etc. For the get back to work person.....I'm sure most of us have jobs that keep us busy. I myself have two of them. But anyway....how about some random acts of kindness instead of random acts of rudeness, etc.

Somewhat stung by a response to something I posted last week, I told my boyfriend who was in the room. He said that basically any forum he's ever been on evolves into the phenomenon about which we're talking. Makes sense, but the sites he frequents are tech-based and probably have their fair share of socially inept techies. I should add that he disagrees with the last part of this posting. :D

Greater Internet F***wad Theory

Yes, it's the anonymity.

It's the GIF Theory:

Normal person + anonymity + audience = total f***wad.

The internet leaves out the "real people" feeling. It's easy to be an ass to typefaces, we tend to forget we're talking to actual people.

I wish more people would remember that. We're all people, and most of us are striving for a common goal, to better ourselves. So let's be supportive?

The comment above, continued. I was just thinking, people might be nicer if this site used usernames on this community. It's totally anonymous other than 11:20. So it's even easier to be an a-hole.

But that could create a whole new mean-ness that's not necessary...

I think there are some rude posters, but also, tonality can be mis-read in cyber space. So I may be saying something tongue in cheek, but the subtlety is missed...
