Why is there some poster adding the comment "why are there so many silly topics like this on Pt when we should be talking about ways to eat healthy and trim fat?" to every thread?!

??

If the topic doesn't interest you, don't read it. Going to the thread and entering in your comment, "why are there so many silly topics like this on Pt when we should be talking about ways to eat healthy and trim fat?", will only bump that particular topic to the top, and put it in peoples' attentions once again, so more people will read and comment.

honestly, the title of this thread was the only one that has generated any interest for me in weeks!!! i haven't read any of the threads where this comment has been posted, but i strongly agree with the curiousity expressed!!! it's like the forum has become some generic-topic open-conference room filled with inappropriate (hair-do down there, how often do you have sex, what pills should i take) topics and teenage banter. it's not a place i check out very frequently anymore. it used to be filled with topics that were actually about achieving and maintaining weight-loss/healthy lifestyle changes and i gained a lot of useful information. not lately, though.

I don't know but I agree. Why are there so many weird posts that have nothing to do with weightloss or healthy lifestyles? SOme are even more than just weird. Some are downright creepy. Others are just gross (details about biological functions).

Because people like to talk about things, and this forum encourages that. Please stop trying to stifle discussion.

i find it very ironic that PT comments about stifling discussions when PT has removed many comments that only add to discussions that are currently ongoing. furthermore, just discussing the phenomenon of strange topics is in itself a discussion, so why should we be advised to stifle our discussion?

Actually, the comments we have removed have been from posters who are bullying the others. The rule here is, be nice. The internet is big, if you can't be nice there are other places out there.

If you want some intersting diet related threads just start them, and ignore the other ones. The neat thing about the lounge is that it is what we make it.

just for the record, i have had many comments deleted and they were not rude or mean. and i had a previous profile completely deleted without any warning or any response when i asked why. i'm not trying to start an arguement but i just want to set the record straight.

And how do we know the responses signed "-PT" are REALLY from PT?

i agree. i think people just sign them -PT just to shut some people up.

in regard to the original question--i ran across that line 2x today and thought to myself "why are you in there reading it if you don't like it?"

I don't by into the "-PT" signature when the stance is basically "shut up and play nice" -- that's not their style. They don't hang out and participate. That 3:50 comment reeks.

I'd like to add a comment - I'm relatively new here and I don't have an opinion yet on whether topics are "on-topic" or "off-topic," but...

my understanding is that this community was a support community for people who are trying to lose weight, eat healthier and have a more active lifestyle...

a pretty important component is that each individual is coming here with different goals, different lifestyle purposes, different battles with weight, body image, whatever...

While I might just want a community to support my goal of maintaining an already established workout routine and losing a few pounds, another person may be a lifelong overeater whose obesity has isolated them and rather than turn to eating they have found this board and community...

so...I think the reason why there are so many various topics is that people are bored and looking for community...

One thing that would help is to have some high-level categories in the Lounge, such as:

Food/Nutrition
Exercise and Fitness
Tracking/Goals
Misc

just a thought

a short while back, there was a thread where some suggested putting a topic word in front of each thread title. for example, if i start a thread about pilates, i might title it, "fitness-pilates workouts". or a thread about my favorite way to prepare butternut squash, "recipes-butternut squash". it gives a little heads-up for those who don't want to fish around each thread.

I like all the ideas, but I still wonder why people have to respond so negatively and with such nastiness sometimes when topics are repeated, when they don't relate to fitness, etc. Some threads are obviously not about nutrition or fitness, so why do those bothered by such things open them up, read them, and take the time to write something negative?

I find the off topic threads often more interesting. I really am interested in what people think about things.

...Because if you obsess on eating healthy and trimming fat, you will...

want to eat all day
and get sick of everyone's advice about the best exercises, pilates v yoga, biking v running, yada yada

while those are worthwhile and valuable and the MAIN reason we are all here, is it SO AWFUL to have other diversions while we're here waiting for an interesting food or exercise related topic to come up?????

CHILL people!!

Why are you so worried about the comments other people are posting? Either they are interesting to you and you can appreciate, maybe comment back -- or they are not interesting to you and you can move on to other things.
