If you have a calorie deficit at the end of the week - burn more calories than you eat/drink - then YES you will lose weight.

You need to figure out how many calories in that glass of wine and how many calories your burning.

8oz = 200 calories = 13% of your daily calorie allowance.

Maybe you should think about why you're putting such emphasis on alcohol in the first place. That's enough to give most folks a light buzz. Why do you need that every night?

If you could cut it down to 4 oz, you'd still have enough to go with dinner, yet it would fit into your diet much more easily.

But yes - you can lose weight and still drink wine. I've lost 20 pounds and I have 3-4 oz of wine a night with dinner, and I make it a full-bodied red that I don't mind lingering over. Whites just go down too fast. I just figure my glass of wine costs 100-120 calories and plan accordingly.

A serving of wine is 5oz, not 8oz. So you're really having about 2 glasses of wine. Not that you can't do it, if you count it in your calorie count, but calling it one glass is a bit of a denial.

Also, realize that alcohol is a depressant, so it'll make your body slow down a bit, and may make your metabolism slow down as well. So, although it is about 200 cals, it may also cause you to burn less calories than you'd be burning otherwise, so maybe you'd want to call it 250 cals or so.

That being said, if you want to eat around 1500 cals a day, that means you have 1250 to eat, since you're drinkign essentially 250. That can be done, but you will need to pick and choose your calories carefully throughout the rest of the day. I eat 1300 cals/day, and I do it by eating 300 cals for breakfast, 500 during the time I'm at work (including lunch), and 500 after work (including dinner.) So I need to make sure that everything I eat is filling. If I eat, say, a bag of baked lays from the vending machine, for 130 cals, that's 130 cals I've wasted, because they're certainly not filling! You just have to re-learn how to eat. And you won't have much room for food treats, because your treat is your wine.

I don't know about white wine, but red wine has something like natural blood thinners. It's said a glass of red wine with dinner each night will help with cholesterol problems and heart disease.
