Any vegans out there?
I've done the meat-free thing for a few years and I'm feeling compelled to take the next step, but I find just the thought of eliminating eggs and dairy to be overwhelming. I don't need convincing, just looking for tips from veteran vegans for implementing a vegan diet, good staples to have on hand, good cookbooks, etc.
And then there's the etiquette question - how do you handle dinner parties? When hosting, do you acommodate your friends or tell them it will be a vegan menu? When you're a guest do you offer to bring something? I really don't want to be a pain in the ass with this. I already find people get defensive when I tell them I'm doing this, I don't want to annoy them, too!

there's a team of us if you're interested..search for McDougall/Vegan/Vegetarian Diet under teams!
I find most people open to try vegan food but I ask first..are you okay with a vegan meal? If they aren't, they can bring something to eat..which is what vegans normally have to do ;)

My brother and sister in law are vegan and when we have family get togethers at our house I try and provide food for them as well as they will bring something for themselves.
If it is something at their place we eat what is put before us. Even if it isn't the best tasting compared to what we are used to. I think your palette changes according to what you eat.
Eventually I think friends and family get used to it.
