Great low-cal snacks

1) Freeze a cup of grapes. They are like tiny, super-flavorful popsicles. I love them and so do my kids

2) Fudge lites (Wells Blue Bunny brand here in the midwest). Only 35 calories each, no sugar.

3) baby carrots

4) rice cake with fat-free cheese

5) Freeze a tasty yogurt for about an hour prior to eating. Like ice cream with less calories. I like either Weight Watchers or Sweet Freedom/Carb Smart.

6) Make a shake with frozen banana, sugar-free coffee mix, skim milk, cocoa powder, splenda. Mmm!

What are yours????

may sound twisted to some, but I like fat free cottage cheese with a bunch of salsa (100 cal, filling snack!). Oh, and skinny cow ice cream sandwiches (140 cals, 3g of fiber)!!

What about low cal snacks that aren't processed scientist-designed foods? I'd love to hear what people's ideas are on eating well for the long haul, and staying away from the processed products. The frozen grapes idea is fabulous!

processed food are not toxic people. Yes, fresh is always better. But a can of soup, a rice cake... things like this are not necessarily BAD for you. They have all sorts of FDA safety regulations along with the new health-savvy consumers that read labels and only buy things that have nutrients and low calories and such. Like I said, fresh is better.... but preservatives are not razor blades people! relax a little.

I shop at Trader Joes and they have delicious chocolate chip meringues that are very low cal and satisfying.

For a special treat, I have 1/4 cup low fat cottage cheese, cup of fruit (Mango, canteloupe, banana) and drizzle a couple teaspoons of honey. I got the idea while in Mexico - they call it a bionico. Usually they put yogurt, raisens, granola and other good stuff, but all that stuff just adds calories. Its great just basic too.

Great tip on the frozen grapes. I don't want to sound flip, rude, or stupid, but as far as unprocessed foods go, aren't pretty much most fruits and veggies going to be reasonably good for you and low-fat?? I guess I'm not sure there are that many new ideas - but here are a few -
- celery sticks with lite cream cheese or soy-fake-cream cheese
- steamed broccoli with a tiny bit of parmesan and olive oil
- boiled egg whites (don't know calories, but 2 eggs with whites only are like 1 WW point)
- chickpeas, hummus, tahini
- red and yellow peppers, roasted with tiny bit of olive oil for about an hour, are divine, as is
- roasted sliced eggplant - if sliced thin and roasted, almost like potato chips
- sweet potato chips - homemade
- homemade smoothies with bananas, strawberries, skim milk and hint of vanilla
or whatever berries, fruit are around

Fall Pumkin dream

I make a package of sugarfree cheesecake flavored pudding, w/ skim milk and add in 3/4 cup canned 100% pumkin, cinnamon and clove to taste.

So good, has fiber, protein and low cal.

suuuuuper simple

Quaker makes a cinnamon chewy granola bar that is pretty low in calories. I unwrap mine, put it on a napkin and nuke it for about 5 seconds. It gets all gooey and tastes like a warm sticky cinnamon roll, practically guilt free!!

I buy frozen potato and spinach or potato and broccoli "pancakes" at the health food store - they're about 50 cals each, nuke in a minute or two, make a nice filling snack or a substitute hashbrown with breakfast.

Instead of ice cream, how about a delicious strawberry smoothie:
Splash of orange juice
Squeeze of honey
A couple of spoonfuls of low fat yogurt
Frozen strawberries (quantity depends on how thick you like your smoothie - for me, the thicker the better!)
Blend till smooth
Yum!!
(Someone I know suggested adding a spoonful of peanut butter for the protein... try it if you like, but in my opinion it just wasn't the same)
