excessive burping

I've started to burp a lot at night for no apparent reason. It usually happens when I lay down for the evening and goes for about a 1/2 hour. Weird, right? I'll be visiting my doctor but I wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts or an experience with this. Thanks.

Do you actually burp - or is it the hic-cups - I know for hic-cups a tablespoon of peanut butter on a spoon does the trick - I have used this method on my family for years - it works - give it a go - see what happens :)

I have had excessive belching for months and couldn't figure out why. I did an ALCAT testing for food allergies/sensivities and turns out I have over 40 food intollerances. Now that i've eliminated them from my diet, no more belching and I have never felt better!

I had the same problem and had what they called a hierta hernia. spelling my not be right on this. My doctor is trying to control it with very small meals and if that does not work I will have to have surgery.

I burp a lot. It's because I swallow a lot more than necessary, which is kind of a nervous habit for me. Probably not the case for you, but in case it sounds familiar to anyone else. Apparently, you're supposed to swallow maybe 100 times a day, other than eating. When I'm stressed, for whatever reason, I swallow several times a minute. This leads to all the excess air, and thus, the burping. It took me forever to figure out what caused it! And it was really embarassing, which stressed me out and in turn, made it worse!!!
