working out - am or pm

Hi - not sure if we've already had this discussion, but wondering if there are any opinions on whether its better to workout in the am or in the pm?

I suppose in the morning your metabolism after working out is racing but the way I see it. If you eat right and healthy and you exercise at least everyday whatever you lose, you've lost that so if you eat 500 and burned 300 you've only eaten 200 calories. You have to go with what feels comfortable for you.

I think as long as you fit in a workout and can do so consistently, that's much more important than worrying about when you workout. A 6am run may get your metabolism going a bit faster in the morning, but it won't if you can't get yourself out of bed, or if you don't enjoy yourself then what's the point?

I'm admittedly a bit extreme in my workout schedule. I hate working out late in the day, especially in winter. To get around this, I get up at 4:00 AM to make sure I get in my workouts. Depending on the day these include strength training, running, yoga, spinning (indoor bicycling), and swimming.

At 4:00 AM, more or less, there is no reason in the world for me to be up except to get in a workout. And there is nothing going on in my life that will conflict with a workout. This means I have an hour-2 hours to get in a workout without fear of a conflict or interruption.

This works for me. It would not work for everyone. The secret is for you to find out what works best for you. Your metabolism will adjust to your schedule.

Good luck.

best time to work out

Whatever works best for you-some people are morning people, others are night people. If you have the most energy at 4pm . . .go for it. Just make sure you don't exercise and hour or two before you want to go to bed-it will keep you up. And FYI . . .Ultimately at the end of the day it's calories taken in vs. calories burned . .. it has very very little to do with when you take in those calories or when you burn those calories.
