Eating more often makes you burn more calories?

I've been told many times that eating more food more often makes you burn more calories even if you are doing the same amount. I'm not sure I understand how that could be, it seems like you should be burning the same amount no matter what because you are doing the same amount of exercise. Is it really possible to speed up your metabolism through simply eating more and more often?

Eating regularly throughout the day will definitely help your metabolism keep going - just make sure you're eating SMALL amounts throughout the day! My breakfast and lunch are both fairly small portions (300 cals), and then lots of good healthy snacks. I find it definitely helps me with the afternoon 'slump' I used to get - I don't crash after a big lunch!

It's not eating more, it's eating more often. Same amount of calories broken up into smaller meals just spread out over the day into "mini-meals".
