Turmeric to make arthritis better

this email popped in to my email box from webmd. I'm sharing because I have started to use more spices in my cooking and it is nice to know the potential health benefits.

"A heaping helping of curry could relieve your pain. That's because turmeric, a spice used in curry, contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory that works similarly to Cox-2 inhibitors, drugs that reduce the Cox-2 enzyme that causes the pain and swelling of arthritis."

Indian food has a ton of tumeric in it. I bet that the other spices in Indian food are also pretty good for you. I'd love to know what they say about cumin.

If it contains curcumin and it works as you said with arthritis, then it is fair to say that it can reduce the pain and swelling of arthritis.

Ways to get turmeric into your diet

Plain powdered turmeric has a great smoky flavor that lends itself to Mexican and Tex-Mex food. I use it in vegetarian blender bean dip all the time: fresh onion, fresh garlic, tomatoes, red peppers, cilantro, kidney or navy beans, and turmeric and other spices to taste (red pepper flakes, parsley, cumin, chili powder, etc.). Would also be good in chili, but be sure to add it gradually - too much makes for a bitter dish. Enjoy!
