girl scout cookie time

Yes, it is. My 10 year old is now preselling cookies. ugh! I'm going to have to have them sitting in my house alone with me at some point when the kids (except the 2yo) are at school. I have a rotten sweet tooth and I'm gonna need alot of will power. Anybody have any suggestions?

Every time you want a thin mint or any cookie - eat a few baby carrots and some raw mushrooms. Or get a piece of gum, or a halls sugar free vitaman C drop and drink hot water or tea. Every time! Have a reward for yourself at the end of cookie season. Massage? New clothing? Keep that in mind - make it something you really want.

Let each kid pick ONE box of their favorites (if you so choose). Upon receiving them, make big signs on each box with that kid's name. They aren't for you, they are for that kid. If you steal from them, they will know. They aren't yours.

Or, buy some boxes and have your daughter take them to school for a treat for her class. Don't keep any at home at all. You are then still supporting the Girl Scouts, but not serving the cookies to your family.

Lol, every year there's a thread about the challenges of Girl Scout cookie time (feel free to search).
Good luck!

Previous poster is clearly insane. Thin mints rule.

I agree thin mints are good. Do you have any high up cupboards that would require a stool and lots of effort to reach? Or do you have a spouse that can lock them somewhere? I have trouble with "knowing" things are in the house so I have to make it inconvenient for myself.

I was a Girl Scout leader and "Cookie Manager" for 4 years in a row. I feel your pain! Sorry, no advice tho. ;)

I think the idea about giving the kids their own boxes is a great idea! Let them trade and give each other cookies and keep them in the kitchen (not their rooms!). But kids are fairly territorial when given their own things so they would be certain to notice if they had some go missing while they weren't around!

another option is to not open the boxes! :) or store them in the trunk of your car.

Thanks everyone! I liked alot of the ideas. Maybe I'll implement a few instead of one. And I appreciate the empathy!

I like the idea of having one box for each child. My 4 y/o now knows when I eat her stuff - like her Halloween candy - even if it's 2 months later. That would definitely help me! Another idea is to be 'charitable' and 'donate' any boxes you buy from them to your friends and neighbors :)

Good luck! Thin mints don't last a day in our house! And those Samoas? Forget it!
