People who don't log or post ANYTHING!!

I have a group that I set up and one of the logers doesn't post anything! When I commented to them how they are doing..no comment! Have any of you had this problem? And what can I do about it? Any ideas please?

I had the same problem. I asked them privately if there was anything I could do to help them be more involved in the group. After several attempts I finally said (privately) that if they weren't going to be part of the group then maybe they could give someone else a chance. They were gone the next day. Good luck.

I think that the majority of people who do this are people who are new to PEERtrainer and will not be in it for the duration. You have to look at their profile and see when they joined and look at their logs each day to see if they are posting and when they posted last. I know for some people it's enough to just log their foods. They literally don't have time for more. If they don't log at all, they will eventually get dropped. It's getting a little annoying that this topic is brought up so frequently. You can always make a private group and invite the people you want. Then you won't have to worry about just anyone popping in on your group.

I agree with the above poster. I wish we would stop bringing this topic up every day. If you don't like a group, you can always leave it at anytime and join another one or create a different one.

Clearly the above two posters have been around PT for awhile, but there are some of us who are new to PT who haven't heard the question before. I appreciated the question.

Personally, I'm glad that it keeps getting brought up... THEN maybe PeerTrainer will design a solution to solve the problem! I guess we can't get too picky being a free service, but it seems like it could be resolved fairly easily. I'm still waiting to see if the 7-day inactivity "rule" actually dismisses the slackers in my groups.

Could you be any more rude? Peertrainer has helped me lose over 23 pounds to which I am extremely grateful. Obviously, you don't know what the word means. Why don't you sign your username? By the way, members in my groups have always been removed if they don't post. If you're so dissatisfied, why don't you go somehwere else?

I guess my feeling is why put the ownness on PT? Why not leave a group? I've done that in the past. Not even for slackers though, people were active for a while, and then who knows what came up and they sort of dwindled. In my experience, people who call others slackers is questionable. How many times have you worked out this week ;)

If it is a group I started I keep on doing my work and posting comments that help me in my program. If it is a group I joined and nothing is happening I get out of it and look for another group. Keep on doing what you need to do to get healthy. When people get serious about their program they will come on board fully and not sit on the sidelines watching. Good question! Thanks for asking.

From a former active AND inactive poster

Hey everyone,
I have read these posts time and time again and just wanted to put my 2 cents in. I want to acknoweldge the frustration for both parties, and hope that you all can see both sides of the coin. When I first started PEERtrainer I was off school for the summer and posted several times a day. In fact, I was sort of addicted to checking to see if anyone in my groups (I was a member of 10 at one time) had posted! I was in some amazing groups with very active posters. A few of the groups had some great people, but weren't so active. I found this frustrating and eventually dropped out of those groups.
With holidays and the new semester starting, I was almost never online. I did recognize that, as much as I LOVED being able to hop on and check others logs, that I was not keeping up on my end, and bowed out gracefully (at least I hope I did) for the next person to join.
So, to the active posters with the slacker: please be patient. I like that one of the posters would mention in a whisper to the individual to please participate or mosey on. I would also suggest mentioning that if they just want to log and not post, that they can start their own group of "just loggers".
To the slackers: I know you probably have good intentions to "get around to posting", but you are taking up a very valuable space that can benefit someone else and the group as a whole. Be honest about the time that you arae not spending on your logs and group. In the interest of fairness and respect to everyone else, please please please drop out of your group. Just like in high school, no one likes the one person in the group who doesn't do their part of the project.
Ok, so I've weighed in on the subject. Please, when reading each other's posts, be gentle and kind. This is a lovely site, and a lot of it has to do with how great everyone is. Take the time to look at both sides, and if all else fails, breathe deep!
Much love,
Time2lose (AKA Nicole)

Having said all that...

Having said all that, I am going to make a new group for those who are only interested in updating their logs, but who still want to lbe able to view other logs. Often times people can get ideas and encouragement just from reading other people's logs (I love checking in on KissMeKate) I will call it "Silent Supporters". It will be targeted to those who are very busy (or just not interested in commenting). Please feel free to send your slackers my way, and best of luck to you all!!!!
Take care,
Time2Lose

Time2Lose,
I think you have the right idea-- Some people may just be interested in viewing, or maybe they are not as computer savvy (or are terribly busy), but would like the support.

I'm a very active poster, but some of my groups have been very quiet as well, but that doesn't mean that no one benefits from the group! At least, I hope that some of my group members are finding my log to be inspirational or beneficial to them... I figure that some people are new to PT, so they may just be 'lurking" until they find the time to do more posting or are more comfortable in their group. To reveal every morsel of food put in your mouth, or to log every bit of exercise (or lack thereof) is something that some people may still be a bit embarrassed to do because to write it down means to be accountable for your actions... I'm sure that some PT members still feel very stigmatized and afraid of others' reactions in what they do or do not do....

It's too bad that Peer Trainer hasn't found a way to create an overall "site group" where everyone can see everyone else's logs at once (without having to search in the Public Logs area to find other active posters....) I think it would be interesting to be able to flip through logs based on how active the poster is-- to see how others are doing without having to dig around the site...

Oops, hit send before I finished!

Perhaps Peer Trainer can make a setting where people can list themselves as "lurkers" or "observers", for those who aren't planning to post very much (either because of lack of time, or newness to PT--and maybe there is some way to allow them to observe a group (i.e. view the logs, but not the comments) vs. to post? Some people are new to this, and they may just want to see what's going on, without actually diving in right away....

Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to gauge how active a group is until you are actually a member...

To the 2nd and 3rd posters who are tired of people bringing up this same subject, if your so tired why bother spending your time and energy to even comment on the same issue? This is a problem for a lot of people who start groups with the idea it is a support group so when one doesn't join in on anything why waste the space, especially if you were very blunt about what you want. I don't think its rude to privately attempt to get them involved and if not ask them to leave so someone else might be able to get more from be in the group. So just don't respond to things that your tired of seeing threads on, this is a community not just your world. :)

Thanks! We are all here to better ourselves, and sometimes our priorities can change, for better or for worse. It is great when people can recognize that we are all in different places in our lives. Having said that, mutual respect for others is key with these fabulous groups, and if we aren't participating,we need to get out of the way for someone else who will participate willingly!
I just started a new group, called Silent Supporters, for those who may fall into the "lurkers" or "observers", and of course, the "slackers" catagories. Please feel free to mention that to anyone who is any of the above, and thus crowding your wonderfully supportive group!
Best wishes to all,

I'm the third poster to this thread and usually don't give this subject a lot of merit. You get out of this site what you put into it. I stand by everything I wrote. There was nothing negative to it. So just don't respond to things because you feel argumentative, this is a community not just your world. :)

It was just a simple question

TO THE LAST POSTER AND ALL WHO HAD TO BE NEGATIVE ABOUT THI THREAD:
I asked one simple question in the beginning of this thread. I have never brought it up before and have never seen it brought up before....I have just started at PT and needed ideas on how to solve this problem...positive or negative ideas... ways to motivate the other party in my group. Why would I want to start a whole new group..that's just pointless...

Geeeesh... and why is everyone so worried about being negative? It's a community and people should be able to speak what is on their minds without being considered rude or inconsiderate. If you don't like the content of the thread, then leave it and move on. There is clearly a problem here that people wanted to get out in the open and hear all the "sides". Unfortunately, as long as people create public groups for "ACTIVE POSTS ONLY" , there is currently NO way to stop non-active posters or loggers from hopping on board... PERIOD.

Sorry if this sounds "negative"... just telling it like it is. Now let's close this thread and move on.......... at least until the next thread--- then we can all just ignore it! :)

This is a community, and people SHOULD be able to speak their minds. Having said that, this is a forum in which to be supportive, decent, and respectful.

You question why everyone worries about being negative? There is enough negativity surrounding all of us everyday-it does not need to carry over to this forum. I am sure that I am not the only one who feels this way.

There is no "problem" of people wanting to get out in the open and discuss all "sides"...this is a community forum, designed for that purpose. Clearly those who posted above were trying to be helpful. Whether it has to do with active posters or eating ice cream for breakfast, we are all here to discuss, like ADULTS.

Remember, what you say stays with you long after you have uttered the words; it speaks volumes of your attitude.

P.S. If you are unhappy with the inactive posters in your group, send an email to the friendly folks at PEERtrainer asking to have the poster spoken to. Let them sort it out so that you can go on your merry way.

>>"I am sure that I am not the only one who feels this way."

If you feel that way, then stay out of the discussion. Every response to a post in this forum could be considered "negative" if you express your opinion about a topic....

"No, I don't think you can loose weight while still breast feeding"....... "The Fat Resistance Diet doesn't work for many, but consider this...."...... "Why did you bake all those cookies if you don't want to eat them? Maybe you should....... "...... "I'm not fond of Pittsburgh-- rooting for Seahawks!"....."I prefer Walmart brand multivitamins."....

Its ALL opinions! If you can't handle differences (or in your words "Negatives"), then stay out of the forums.

JUST A SIMPLE QUESTION!!!!!

If you read my comment I SAID..I don't really care if the opinion to my dilema was negative or positive. I just wasn't looking for OFF TOPIC NEGATIVITY. Why would I care if the comments were negative. At least I would see all sides positive or negative. I was just looking for comments regarding my QUESTION...I wasn't expecting a damn soap..save that for jerry bloody springer. I asked a simple question..wanting a SIMPLE response since I was new to PT and wanted an idea of what to do about this in order to give others a chance to join my group. IT is very hard to watch someone post ABSOLUTELY NOTHING..how is that motivating to others in the group..that's just not fair. And when they do post, they post what they had at MCDONALDS!! Do you think it is motivating to see that someone had a QUARTER POUNDER AND FRIES!!! Gees the reason I joined was to stay OUT of MCDONALDS. At least I'm losing calories VENTING!!!!! THANK YOU... I'll just be sure to NEVER post here again...what the hell is this world coming to...I'll bet you if I asked any child my question this thread would have been WAY shorter..AND..I would have had about 10 ideas on what to do...positive or NEGATIVE...

I understand not every comment was directed to my origional question..I'm just upset that this little drama had to happen from my original question! I'm trying to read for any helpful feedback....and I'm reading through this drama about who said what and what was said about this and blah blah blah......and in the end, I really didn't get any ideas..actually no...I did get a few..so thank you to those who were helpful and to the point. So can we please just close this thread because really it's going no where. I have decided to just keep the member in my group and just try to motivate them in any way I can.... thanks for all the ideas:)
