Bloated after every meal?

This always happens to me and I can't stand it! Even if I try to eat smaller portions, it still happens! Is there specific foods I should be eating to not feel SO bloated at the end of every meal? Or maybe a supplement or something? Please help!

Ooh - I hate that feeling!!

And eating lots of raw vegetables can, too. I had this problem, too, and was advised to limit the salads and eat most of my veggies lightly steamed.

How old are you OP? I just learned that as we get older we don't have as many disgestive enzymes, so that leads to a lot of bloating and gas - lovely, eh? Anyway, an enzyme supplement was suggested. The names escape me (not Beano), but I'm sure you could find out online. The other option was to eat more foods with the enzymes (live cultures? whatever it is we need) in it - like yogurt (Activia is marketed for this)

I've noticed I get bloated after I eat tons of veggies. I've learned to take a Beano before meal here and there, and that helps sometimes. Not sure if that applies to you.

OP- I'm only 17 and I've had this problem for a few years now. I've always had some sort of problem with my stomach...around the age of 12 I had ulcers!

could be wheat allergy. I was 20 with ulcers, turned out to be wheat intolerance. Try going a week without wheat, but read the ingredients on everything you put in your mouth.

Are you drinking soda or carbonated beverages with your meals?

no, i've been soda-free for over a year now, except for an occassional sip. All i drink is water and green tea..sometimes apple juice.

So, I'd give the supplements a try and see if that makes a difference.

activia has bacterial cultures which isn't the same as enzymes. The OP is 17, so given her young age, it's not as like that it's an enzyme deficiency. Enzymes are generally found in "live foods" meaning raw fruits and vegetables.

Dairy can also cause bloating.

OP, take a look at your diet and see if you're eating any one food regularly that is causing your problem. If you're really feeling bloated after *every* meal, and not just certain meals, then you likely do have a digestive problem, that is not related to what you eat in a meal (ie a high veggie meal) but is a systemic problem, that will need to be fixed.

Celiac and wheat intolerance is suprisingly common but often goes undiagnosed. Both can wreak havoc on your stomach and intestines causing digestive problems. One daily serving of wheat or gluten can have an intolerant person feeling bloated or sick for their next 3-6 meals, easily. Dairy is not as likely to cause systemic problems in the gut.

If your parents have coverage, I would consider doing a food allergy test. It's not normal to feel bloated after *every* meal at 17.

ooh, you're right - I forgot she was 17! Getting checked out is a good idea - it's not normal. I'm 40 and I'd be getting myself checked out if I were bloated after every meal!
