Take a tour
How do I know how long i ran without buying equipment?
I been running for a while now and recently joined track at my school but i love to run outside when i have time to spare. But there is a problem I dont know how to tell how long of a distance i have ran for. How can I tell without buying equipment or going to a bike route?

I always run and then go back with my car and check the mileage. That's the only way you'll really know. Otherwise run the same route each time and check for how long it takes. Hopefully you'll get faster the more you do it.

there is a way to do it with a step counter...it is not accurate but it would give you an idea.... a good step counter comes with instructions on how to measure your stride etc... then you could go to the track or pace out a mile and run that distance... or half a mile or whatever you are good to do... you would see how many steps it takes for you to cover that distance and log it... then you would have an idea by how many steps you took how far you went... you can get a decent step counter for under $20.... or if you run at the same pace all the time... time how long it takes to cover a half mile or mile and then calculate from there.... again will not be totally accurate but....would give you an idea

Use this link: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/
You can draw out your route on the map and it will tell you how far you went. I love this - you can even use it in a park or other places where there aren't roads.

I also use Google maps to measure distance. I enter the start address and the end address. Google gives directions (that are sometimes direct, not always) then lists the distance. I then multiply that by 2 if it's a loop.
