should i try pilates alexander technique and feldenkrais or stick to yoga

i've been doing yoga for about 15 years, with considerable regularity. I also walk about four miles most days. Should I try other forms of exercise such as pilates, alexander technique, feldenkrais. My spouse ridicules these moves, saying just stick to yoga and walking and do it regularly. "Do these regularly and you'll be fine," she says. Sometimes, I think that makes sense. But I also want to know if these are really new-fangled modifications of a discipline that has lived for thousands of years.

These are totally different. I think you might like Pilates if you like Yoga because it is very similar in many ways. I think Pilates concentrates on strenthening the core more than yoga. but they would complement each other very well. I tried some Feldenkrais once and I could see how it could improve functioning a smothness of movement if you had something like a limp or an awkward gait, but I haven't pursued it any more than that.

alexander technique, feldenkrais technique

These two techniques are not really exercises but learning to move your body in a way that causes less discomfort. If you are looking for exercise, they will not really help you, if you are looking to decrease your pain or be more effecient, they can be great.

Try other things

It's always good to mix your exercise routine up, especially if you're wanting to lose weight. Pilates is a wonderful complement to yoga. I started yoga 4-5 years ago, just started pilates classes this year. Similar but different and worth investigating.
