A Good Idea

This is good, sometimes I feel so negative when I "cave in', I fail to reward myself enough for all the things I'm passing over. Yesterday at work (12 hr shifts) I skipped homemade cookies and pumpkin bread, passed on the fudge. Finally succumbed to some peanut brittle, then back on track.
Today at a party, I skipped all the fats and carbs, ate off the veggie tray, and had only a thin sliver of birthday cake...so I am proud of that.Yay for me and I earned a smiley face sticker for my calendar ...really :) Debs

As i was standing in the checkout line at the grocery store today I looked at the display of candy and chocolate and i wanted it ALL. I took a deep breath, looked away and still wanted it, waited several minutes there in line, got all the way through the check out process and still wanted it but didn't get any. I felt like I was protecting my inner child with boundaries and that's way better than candy...mostly ;)

Oooh Fun!

My work had an entire doughnuty, pastry laden, saturated fat fest all laid out the other morning when I came into the lobby. My coworker ate two doughnuts & a brownie throughout the day. Me, I stuck to my cut up veggies as planned. I was very proud!

I went to a holiday party tonight and I didn't leave stuffed! I ate moderate portions and a very small dessert and there were no holiday cookies there at all, but we didn't miss them! I get a gold start for today!

This is a great idea! I am trying to forgo sweets right up until Christmas day--not that I plan on eating 5 pounds of cookies that morning or anything--just want the day to be more "special." I find it makes it easier to pass up all the temptations at work--a restaurant with outstanding baked goods and cooks that like to bring in treats all the time.

I skipped impulse buys at the checkout while shopping today AND went to an engagement party and didn't eat or drink a thing! Wow - too busy chatting and so no one noticed, either.

avoiding holidaya temptation

Debs, you get a smiley face from me, too. Consider this a sincere pat on the back from someone whose good initentions have a hard time being heard over the clamor of her sugary inclinations. Got to keep trying, though. Plan, prepare, and practice--that's my motto.

I went to a friends house with my hisband tonight and she was making homemade from scratch cookies and pastrys!
I had 5 cookies. it seems like alot but if could have seen the amount of cookies that she had...wooohooo!
Im proud that i ONLY had 5 :)

Only 5 is a HUGE accomplishment. I know all too well what it's like to go to town with a dozen (or two) cookies. Well done.

Tonight I mentally battled with myself over a bag of peanut butter M&Ms. I finally reasoned that I hate waking up feeling full and gross, and that I can have them in the morning if I want (which I won't, since chocolate covered peanuts don't go with oatmel or eggs).

chocholate covered cherries

I gave into having some, but I walked by them at least 3x's before I gave in. Also, no dessert from Appleby's or Cracker Barrell!!! Did give in to 2 pcs of Hershey's minitures.

A client sent me a gift of sugar cookies today. I decided to open it and put it in the break room for everyone else to enjoy. 1/2 way through the day a couple were still there so i broke off a peice. When I got back to my desk the cookie was so sweet that I threw it away. Normally I would feel guilty about throwing away food but not this time. It felt really good.

Yesterday I started a new plan where I can't have sweets or white carbs during the week, only moderately on Saturdays, and Christmas. I was SO tempted to eat the Snickers my BF put in the freezer, but I didn't! I even started making up excuses I would use on PeerTrainer as to why I did it. But I couldn't rationalize breaking my plan on the very first day, so I feel very good about it today!

When I crave ice cream after dinner (happens once or twice a week), I eat a bowl of frozen raspberries with a spoon instead. It's actually a pretty similar consistency!

avoided choc. covered cherries (ate just the cherries), sausage, egg bisquit, doughnuts, and parked in the last parking space instead of the 1st one.

Cookies and healthy options

Tonight I have a holiday party for a community org that I belong to.

I have just arranged the plate of cookies that I'm bringing to the party (they are actually fancy mail order cookies that my MIL was given for the holidays, neither she nor I want them around, so I'm gonna unload them at the party), and didn't have one.

Also, I'm bringing my own bottle of water to the party, so I won't be tempted by soda or cider (probably no alcohol at the party), and I'm bringing a basket of clementines so I will have a healthier option for dessert.

Small steps...

We have a huge cannister of popcorn at work. I love popcorn, but I prefer air popped, no salt, no butter. There's cheese popcorn, fake butter popcorn, and caramel popcorn. I haven't touched it yet, and it's been here almost a week. Eventually, it will get stale...
I'm lucky to work in an area where we are very health conscious. None of us will be bringing in sweet treats! I cannot say as much for the other departments, however...good thing I bring snacks of fruits and veggies!

holiday cookies

so today at my office there were a bunch of cookies lying around. i decided that one cookie would be ok and i wouldn't have to feel guilty about it. then i decided to eat a second one. i grabbed it and took it in my office. i took one bite and then realized what i was doing and threw it away. i felt like a junkie throwing away food, but it felt good making the decision not to eat it.

yesterday we had an event for work with a few kinds of little appetizers floating around. i did eat THREE very fatty little salmon cake things, but I was proud of myself for then not eating an entire other "real" dinner when i got home, and realizing i actually wasn't hungry...

The hyperactive boss who weighs no more than 90 pounds brought in chocolate covered potato chips. I was very intrigued, and almost gave in "for research," but then just said, "no thanks."

been a good girl

I made cookies for presents... you know, the hard people to give to.. neighbors and such.. I nibbled the first baking day... trying to take one bite then putting it down. I then found my focus and have not had one cookie in 2 days. Tonight has been getting harder... they are calling. I also plan to indulge, xmas eve and xmas day... then newyears eve, and new years day.... indulge with discretion... I am glad this thread popped up.
I also handed my husband a cookie that he was trying to have me help hold for my (20 month) ds to eat.... lucky kid. He did not want an oatmeal raisin cookie at first until he realized how good it was...

Avoiding holiday goodies

I'm not sure if I already noted this triumph here, but I went to a wonderful concert and didn't go to the reception with food afterward, though the table was full of scrumptious-looking stuff. I had talked to myself a lot before going to the concert to persuade myself not to go to the reception, since I KNEW that all I'd do there was eat.

I'm doing well today, I have passed up cheese cake, chocolate cake, pie, and chocolates. There is food everywhere in my office. I just need to keep it up. I had a bunch of junk yesterday at a family party. I'm just trying to remember that one bad day just needs to stay one bad day and not let it turn into one bad week.

I went out with my family for my mom's birthday at Red Lobster. I ate only 1/2 a cheese biscuit and took just a couple of bites of desert. I also ordered the broiled fish and only ate 1/2 of the serving of that, too!

And the hits just keep on coming!

A beautifully frozen Snickers has been sitting in my freezer for 4 days now, uneaten by my evil BF (lol) nor myself.
I baked 2 Macadamia cookies for said BF tonight and did not take even the teensiest bite...
and tomorrow I have to avoid the 2 dozen donuts and 2 boxes of Munchkins I've been assigned to bring in to work. Must think...oatmeal...oatmeal...oatmeal...
This thread is great.

office tidbits

good for you to just say no. Today at my office we had 5 open boxes of cookies, 4 selections of fudge, and luckily a bushel of large grapefruit
I could pass on all the sweets and was able to bring the grapefruit home for supper. It smelled great in the car and tasted sweet as i savored every bite. No 500 calorie chocolate binge but a 50 calorie treat.

Chocolate covered caramels

I'm saying no today to the chocolate covered caramels brought in the office for Christmas, despite that it's my FAVORITE candy. Saying no as well to the chocolate covered pretzels, tootsie rolls, cookies, candy canes, mint candies, and cocoa that have been left on my desk. Time to re-gift!

OP

I've had a head cold this week so I've been doing pretty good since my taste buds were not working. But, they're back now and I feel a pat on the back is due.
I wanted Arby's for lunch, loaded potatoe and chicken fingers, went to Zaxby's instead and had a fried chicken salad w/ a little bit of dressing (mostly dry) and 3/4 pc of texas toast

been a good girl-gone a little bad

hi- back again. I had chinese food last night and made more cookies, this time with creamcheese frosting.. I had one cookie and licked the beaters for the frosting... then today I had like 4 cookies and 4 slices of pizza at my husbands office party... BUT - the rest of the cookies are in the freezer until the 25th... and I did work out this morning.
It seems I can only stay away from some things for like 3 days at a time and then I crack.

Also said no to the huge cookie tray in the work breakroom. Just 3 hours to go and I can get away from the breakroom and on the road for some holiday travel!
