brown/oxidized avocado -- ok to eat?

I got a really amazing veggie sandwich last night, but could only finish half of it. I brought the other half to work with me today, but I noticed the avocado on the sandwich has turned brown. Is this OK for me to eat or will I have to go out and buy a new lunch?

Thanks in advance!

It's probably fine...it's like apples that haven't been given a squirt of lemon juice to prevent the browning. A taste won't kill you - give it a try and see if it still tastes fine to you! Or just slice off the brown part if you can.

avocados that have been "opened" turn brown in 8-12 hours at refrigerator temps if not treated with citrus juice and tightly sealed from air. If the avocado is under 24 hours old, I would go ahead and eat it. After 24 hours until, say 48 hours, it will probably be mushy and unappetizing but not actually harmful. After 48 hours, I say pitch it!

OP here:

Thanks for the input!

It was too ugly to eat, so I just picked it off the sandwich.
