anyone here have celiacs disease?

How can i lose weight eating gluten free?

I do not have it personally, but my girlfriend's daughter has it and so does her father. She is 9 and found out at the end of last year that she has it. So I do know more than the average person does about it.

You can lose weight with a Gluten Free diet. You need to stick with whole foods. Foods like: Fresh Fruits, Vegitables, Brown Rice, Yogurt, Skim Milk, and lean meats like turkey, chicken and fish.

Celiac pretty much robs you of your ability to eat the carbs your body needs, so you have to incorporate other carbs in place of the Wheat and Gluten. That is why I suggest brown rice. I eat brown rice at least once a day and that gives me some of my needed carbs. You just have to eat smart whether you have celiac or not.

Good luck! If you know how to diet and you know the types of foods you need to eat and you know what you cannot eat due to the Gluten and Wheat, then you should have no problem.

Pffft- being celiac does NOT rob you of carbs in any way shape or form. You can't have barley, rye, or wheat (including spelt and kamut) if you are gluten free- a whopping 3 (or 5) kinds of carb. You can still however have all kinds of rice, and quinoa, amaranth, teff, millet, tapioca, oats, buckwheat, and corn- all grains used as sides or pastas or flours. For flours, you also have potato, arrowroot, cassava, garfava, various bean flours, lentil flours, and jerusalem artichoke.

As far as I'm concerned, gluten free eating should make one eat a much more varied diet. It's still super easy to eat high carb on a gluten free diet. I'm all for eating low carb, but one doesn't have to just because they focus on gluten free.

That being said, wheat causes inflammation, bloating and insulin resistance, which all translate into higher numbers on the scale. You lose weight because your body is usually better able to regulate itself once you get rid of wheat. Also, you tend to eat less processed foods which is also good for your body.

I also eat seed bars and coconut yoghurt, nuts and vegan chocolate. I have other food intolerances.

Umm I do not hav ethe disease but saw the thread and wanted t tell you that I saw here in NY that our Uno's restuarant now have a gluten free menu..

Fresh and simple

I've been GF for nearly 3 years and have successfully lost weight. I've dropped 38 pounds since I went GF and have 9 pounds to go to reach my target goal of 120 pounds. You can definitely lose your weight on a GF diet... just stay away from the empty carbs like you would if you were still eating gluten. Don't go for the pre-packaged GF bagels, breads, etc. Use grains in moderation, and when you do use them, choose wisely... a PP gave a good list of grains/seeds/flours that you can use. Of the ones mentioned, I find that quinoa is a fabulous choice because it is a complete protein, is quick cooking and has a great mild flavor that works with most everything.

Stick with fresh fruits and veg as your mainstays. I am vegan also, but even if you're not, just get lean protein and balance it out with the fruits and veg. Exercise, take your probiotic(I use VSL#3) and drink plenty of water. You can do it!
