In March 2007 I began my healthy new lifestyle. I wasn't always overweight, but once I turned 30, my metabolism slowed, and the weight crept on. In 2005, at age 35, I became pregnant and gained even more weight.
At age 37 I just couldn't stand how I felt, I was out of shape and constantly exhausted. My friend, Susan, took me to a yoga class at the YMCA, and I liked the non-gym feel. I joined and went Monday through Friday, every morning at 5:30am so I could get back in time before the family woke up.
When I first started, I couldn't even run for more than 10 seconds on a treadmill. Eight months later I entered my first 5K race (because of a challenge by Hope in the MarathonMamas & Maniacs team), The Palm Desert Turkey Trot, I finished in 28 minutes. I surprised myself, and I was hooked! It felt great to wear that race bib. I felt like a real runner, and when I crossed that finish line, I felt like a superhero.
One month before my 40th birthday, I ran the Los Angeles Marathon. Best birthday present I ever gave myself. Running saved my life. Hallelujah!
I've read that you can shave almost 4 minutes off your marathon time for every 5 pounds you lose. I don't know if this is true, but I'm determined to find out! :)

"Whatever you're thinking about is literally like planning a future event. When you're worrying, you are planning. When you are appreciating, you are planning...What are you planning?"
From Dr. Christiane Northrup...
Every thought you think creates a biochemical equivalent in your body. And that is why writing down things you appreciate is good medicine. And so is truly owning how bad something feels. That too moves energy and changes chemistry.Health isn't about denying your sadness or grief. Instead it's a dance of feeling, releasing, appreciating. How are you doing with this dance?
Drop all the judgements you may have about those who are not ready or willing to make the same changes you’re making.
Between stimulus and response there is a space.
In that space is our power to choose our response.
In our response lies our growth and our freedom.
Viktor E. Frankl
