Members profiles:
28-year old archivist in the DC area. I have many passions and loves: knitting, yoga, cycling, hiking, photography, vegan food. In 2005, I lost 60 lbs. I hit a long plateau and while I ramped up on exercise, I did not lost any more weight in order to reach my goal. Over the next two and a half years, I gained about 30 lbs back. In the summer of 2008, I became seriously ill with Lyme disease. This illness helped me reach the right mental place to step up my routine and watch every single thing that went in my mouth. As I changed my diet and my exercise levels, I got better. I also had the great benefit of losing weight. From August 2008 until time of this writing (December 3, 2008) I have lost 38 lbs.

I'm 30 and I live in Chicagoland. I knit and read a lot - not the most physically active hobbies! I'm married and have three cats.

Can't believe I let so many pounds(100ish) sneak back on after the big loss in 2000 (70). I've done it before, it's time to do it again! I'm 40-something, married and mother of 4 teenagers.

Upper forties. Happily married for 23 years with two children, both boys. Work part-time at a public library in the adult reference department.

I'm 26 years old, currently single but attached, love to knit, and need to start getting serious about taking care of my body.

I am disabled and cannot do a lot of thing with my arms. I can knit but nothing that involves lifting my arms over shoulder high. I walk when the weather is nice.

27 years, Grad Student, vegan, and recreational knitter.

Mother of two small children

I am 33, single, love to knit, read and garden.

I'm a 43 yo sahm of 3 (17, 14, 4). I am a former classroom teacher who now home educates our kids. One is all ready to head off to college in the fall. I'm an avid knitter.

I am 39 years old, married, no kids. Living in Spokane, WA. since my 30s the weight has been creeping up higher and higher. When i moved back to my hometown, Spokane, he weight really piled on and I can't seem to lose it. I know what I need to do. I've joined Weight Watchers countless times. I've read tons of nutrition books. I just lack the motivation and willpower to do it. there are lots of food related issues that I need to tackle. I am hoping that this program will help. I am a Youth Services Librarian. I love to knit and spin yarn. I also love to do outdoor things. I love running, hiking, camping.

I am a 26 year old knitter, artist and grad student in Berkeley, CA.

I'm the mother of two boys-ages 8 and 5-and I'm a high school English teacher. I've steadily gained weight since getting out of college but am just now starting to turn it around.

Early 20's newly wed.

42yo vegetarian. Occasional knitter (it helps me to have other knitters around). Just moved to Denver. Eating right isn't a huge obstacle, but making myself go out and exercise definitely is.

I'm *almost* 40 and llive just up the coast from Boston. I work full time in an office - lots of sitting around time.

i'm a 25 yo working in the high stress environment of washington dc journalism ... over the past year the combination of work and social stress have added more than a few pounds to my frame so i'd like to lose that weight, increase flexibility and improve my eating habits. i'm hoping that i can divert some of my snacking energy on knitting.

Almost 40 (!!) healthcare professional (emergency medicine) love my life, hate my weight Love to knit, travel, read and hang with my 2 gorgeous Goldies

Im 26, and married. I have two dogs, two cats, and recently found out I'm expecting baby #1 in Early October.

almost 30, married, and a mom. I love to knit more than I love to exercise, it kinda shows!

29 year old medical student in Syracuse NY. Married for 4 years to a law student in Pittsburgh, PA. I love to knit, but I am frustrated with how the finished objects end up looking on me. I want to knit things and look good in them! My weight has fluctuated a lot over the last 11 years but it has been a long time since I actually felt good about the way I look. It's time to turn things around!

Knitter ISO healthier lifestyle. I actually have been fit + healthy up until 6-7 years ago - so I know waht to do, I just need to DO IT!

Mid- thirties married mommy. Supervisor for a big-box warehouse establishment (not Sam's or Wal-Mart!) Have gained around 50 pounds since I met my husband, would love to get rid of it! I love knitting, music, and photography.

I'm a 23 year old, young, professional working the in nations capital in a job that I pretty much sit and work on a computer all day. I love to knit and crochet and I am still learning more and more everyday.

I'm 26 years old. I work for a mtg company, but I'm obsessed with knitting. :)

I'm 25, currently a student, but most importantly a knitter.

I have only really been a 'proper' weight just before my second kidney transplant, when my kidney made me constantly nauseated for months. I was 114 after the transplant and horrified by how skeletal I looked. 6 years and just under 80 pounds later, I've decided that I can lose the weight again but this time with a healthy kidney, a healthy outlook, and a healthy physical regime.

I'm a 33 YO knitter and graphic designer from Maryland. A few years ago I did Weight Watchers and lost 55 pounds, but then I gained it back. So I'm on the WW wagon again and intend not only meet my goal, but maintain my weight loss.

I am 27 and a research student. This means I have a fairly sedentary lifestyle. I do however have a dog who keeps me quite active! I am currently running at least twice a week. I have recently found that I am putting on weight and it seems to be harder to shift than it used to be. I have crept out of the healthy weight range and am determined to deal with this before it becomes a big issue.

I am a 45-year-old mother of two kids, ages 14 and 11. I work part time and try to work out about 5 days a week--running, weights, exercise classes. I have been slim for several years and this year have begun to see the pounds creep up--I want to stop it from getting worse!

39 yo professional with hectic professional and personal lives. I've struggled with my weight my whole life. As a child, I was always chubby; as an adult, I've been more or less sllightly overweight, except for a brief time in my early 20s when I was very thin (through a combination of starving myself and exercising constantly). Regardless of the numbers on the scale, I have never thought that I was "thin enough". To make things worse, most of my relatives are tiny, for example, my mother is 4'11"; my sister is 4'10". I am not. Regardless of my professional and personal accomplishments, all that seems to matter is my weight. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF FEELING BAD AND BEING MADE TO FEEL BAD ABOUT MY WEIGHT!!!

I am a grad student. I have recently given up meat. I am a noob knitter. I just made myself a hoop and am having fun learning how to work it and practicing tricks.

my son keeps me young, my job keeps me solvent, my knitting keeps me sane, walking keeps me healthy

I'm a woman who is approaching her thirties, and is taking back control over her life. I was engaged to be married in August MMX, he broke off our engagement and relationship on the weekend of. So here I am single, and I've decided that when I turn thirty, I'm going to look and feel the best I ever have!

I am a 34 YO woman, married with pets. I work full time and love to knit, read, and relax at home during my personal time -- and these choices have led to steady weight gain over the past 5-6 years.

30 yo Biomed Student. Want to loose weight and get fit. Have Chornic Fatigue Syndrome and a Congential Heart Condition.

I am a 24 y.o. single female. Working on being healthier and looking better as well. I am currently single but am currently in the dating world which is a scary place especially when your confidence is not great.

I'm a WW lifetime member. My highest weight was 225.4. I'm currently 131.4. I began WW December 2005 and I reached lifetime December 2006. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. I also completed my first 1/2 marathon on April 28, 2007. I finished it in 2:13:24. I'm currently training for a duathlon and another 1/2 marathon. You can read my blog at: http://runbikeknit.blogspot.com/

I'm 35 and have gained most of my weight in the past four years. I used to run often and am trying to get back into it. I'm a social worker by training, have a great dog and of course, LOVE me some knitting.

I am a 35 year old married mother of two, whose husband stays at home while I work. My life is always busy, and my children have come first for a very long time. I love to cook and bake, and was in a Weight Watchers group for a time. I still keep track of my points, but I wasn't enjoying things. I love to walk, and spend time with my boys but my weight makes it hard for me to keep up sometimes.

SAHM to one adorable daughter (born 11/10/07) and expecting another December 2009.

21 year old college student (and avid knitter) in the New Orleans area. School, post-Katrina stress, and hearty Louisiana food added a few extra pounds I'd like to shed before graduation (in May!)

I'm a 40 year old college student. I worked for twenty years and got nowhere so I decided it was time I got to go to college. I have one dog, one cat, a husband and four computers. I love to knit (my sanity saver), read and sew (none of which are considered active endeavors). I'm addicted to my friends and I would like to live into my late 90's.

I'm a 42 year old single mom. I love to knit and always have several projects going at the same time. I've lost some weight, gained some weight for the last 3 years and i'm looking foward to dropping some weight and keeping it off!!

Turning 33 in a few weeks, mom to 1, spend way too much time knitting but that's not going to change (if only I could work out and knit at the same time...)

29 year old stay at home Mom who just started her own business. I knot when I get the chance, but with a 5 year old, 4 year old and a 2 year old, there isn't much free time!

I'm 26, live in LA, knit a lot, and am about to get married and move back to the east coast. I gained about 40-50 pounds after being hospitalized in 2004 and haven't lost as much of it as I'd like. I love sports and being outside, but the air quality here really affects my asthma, so I'm mostly limited to indoor workouts.

I'm a 27 years old mom of a 16 month old and married to a great husband for 2 1/2 years.

Will be 37 this year, one daughter and trying for number 2 this year. I love knitting and wish that it wasn't so sedentary but I'm not giving it up, I just have to fit some exercise in --

28 year old who loves to knit and works in front of a computer all day. I always have a lot going on during the week so I need to do cardio/pilates at least 3 times during the week and work extra hard on the weekends.

I am 48 and have 2 grown up daughters. I work in an office or at home, writing marketing copy. When I am not working I am knitting or reading knitting blogs and/or listening to knitting podcasts. This just isnt getting me burning the calories! I was a vegetarian for 20 years and now eat free range chicken or bacon occasionally and fish. I try and eat healthily but probably eat too much in the way of portion size. I love walking in the country with my dog but it is actually getting out there that is the problem, there always seems to be something else I "should" be doing.

I'm 45, working full-time in the University setting, happily married and no children. Love crafting, especially knitting.

I am a youngish wife w/o kids (yet) who'd like to get my weight and body in decent shape so I can enjoy it for just a little while before welcoming a baby into my life.

40, single mom of two. Writer, reader, knitter.

42 year old married mother of 3 sons, two of whom are teenagers. I've put on the usual stay-at-home-mom-getting-older weight. I'm also a knitter and a quilter.

I'm 41. I'm usually quite active and have never had much trouble keeping weight off. The last 2 years I have gained about 12-15 pounds.

I'm an avid knitter and heard about this diet site on the knitblogosphere. I had a run of bed health problems that led to some weight gain and would like to get the LBs off now.

I'm 28, living on a small island in Japan, working as a secretary, wifing a Marine (that'd be the verb version of "wife"), loving a dog, knitting too slowly on too many projects, and being blessed by God in millions of ways every day!

I'm a 37 year old female medical transcriptionist who works at hom. I went on Atkins on April 1, 2004, and lost 30 pounds. Then I moved back in with my parents and, over the past year and a half, have gained most of it back. So on April 1, 2007, I went back on Atkins!

I'm 31 yrs old, mother of two and work full time. I love to knit and crochet, read books, and watch movies in my spare evening moments.

I'm a 47-year-old married mother of three, and I work full-time and am also writing my doctoral dissertation. I've been doing WW for two years--lost 25 pounds and have gained half of it back, and now WW doesn't seem to work for me anymore. I have no time to exercise but know I need to! I'd like to lose 15-20 pounds before my college reunion in May.

I am a recently married attorney. I lost around 35 three years ago but have let it all creep back on.

I'm a 20 year old college student in NJ. I'm majoring in English and planning to get my teacher certification, although I'm not positive that's what I really want in life. I am an optimistic and enthusiastic person. I am very very petite (not even 5 feet tall) and every pound I gained when I went to college shows. I have lost some of the college weight, but I want to lose a bit more. I also want to keep the weight off and feel more fit by exercising and eating right.

I am an avid 27 year old knitter who is looking to get back into a regular exericse regimin. I have been knitting for one and a half years and have completely immersed myself in it. Unfortunately, this left me not focusing very much on exercise. I am now hoping to find a balance. Professionally, I am a Controller for a non-profit in Alexandria, VA.

30-year-old journalist and knitter. i've wanted to drop 10 to 15 pounds for a while now, and i'd love to tone up and improve my eating habits.

I am a 26 year old school teacher from CT. I like knitting, reading, listening to music, traveling, spending time with friends, my cat Dylan and my hubby Quentin. I am ready to become accountable for my successes and failures, especially those in maintaining a healthy weight and an active lifestyle.

Heading toward 40, 2 kids, a dog, 3 cats and 5 chickens. I realized that I am in exactly the same position my mom was in at my age and she 's now paying for it with her health. I don't want to go down that road.

I'm a 30-year-old mother of two (ages 4 yrs, 6 mo). At times I've been an active athlete; at other times I've been a slug. We're coming out of a slug phase now. Normally my job is somewhere between sedentary and insane--teaching high school English--but this year I'm home on maternity leave, and I thought to myself: If I can't develop an exercise habit now, then I never will. So I'm doing it 3 weeks at a time. I weigh about 165 at 5 foot 7, and my goal weight is 135.

I'm 32, and tired as heck of being overweight and feeling frumpy. A few years ago I had some serious drive and motivation that took me down to 125 pounds and completed a marathon... but every since then I've lost that focus and haven't been able to get it back :( Oh yeah... and I KNIT!

I just turned 45 - I've been fairly thin for most of my life. I gained 10-15 pounds when I quit smoking, two years ago. I also lost my father to cancer last August and have put on another 15 pounds since then. I have two children - a 16 year old daughter and 4 year old son; and a wonderful husband.

I'm a 27 year old secretary. I got married in June of 2008 - I was really good about being healthy and making good decisions to 'fit into the dress', but since then I've gained about 10 pounds. I'm reasonably healthy, but I'd like to start having kids, and want to have healthy habits and a healthy weight to get started.

Married to a wonderful crumudgeon, mother to six rowdy kids, living in the wilds of Maine.

I am a 30-year-old mother of two under 2. I have been knitting for a year and a half, and I have an almost-2-year-old and a 5-week-old.

29, turning 30 in September of this year. I LOVE food, even started a cooking club. I love finding really flavorful recipes from Cooking Light that both of us (me and my boyfriend Mario) enjoy. I'm a knitter too - that's what caught my eye about this group!

28 years old, have been overweight since my early teens and in the last couple of years it has just been creeping up and up. At the moment I weigh 89kg (196lbs - 14 stone). I would like to lose weight to be thin and wear lovely clothes well but I am also very focussed on gaining energy and feeling fitter. I have mild Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or ME which hasn't helped with putting on weight but I am having acupuncture which seems to be helping that and I would like to introduce moderate exercise to help me lose weight and gain energy.

I am 41 and a SAHM of a 10 and 8 year old. I work pt as a lunch supervisor. I love to knit, read, scrapbook and make cards. Due to problems with asthma and blood pressure, I need to loose some pounds and hope that this will work for me.

I wil be 38 in June and I want to be healthy and fabulous for forty. I figure if I start now that gives me plenty of time to get in shape.

I'm a 42 year old mom of three. I've been playing around with losing weight for too long----at least a year. Although I've developed a healthy exercise routine, I'm not seeing the numbers on the scale go down at all.

I'm 27 and live in Northern Virginia/Metro DC area. I'm married, have 2 cats, and work for a non-profit association. In my spare time, I knit, sew, collect Blythe dolls, and play video games with the hubby. :)

I'm a 31 year old single mom who has just found herself at the heaviest she's ever been. I'm also a knitter and spinner. I'm looking forward to being motivated!

I am 32yrs old and recently moved up to the Seattle Wa area. I am married and am excited about starting our family. but first I'd like to loose a few pounds. I love creating, crafting of all kinds, sewing and just about anything that involves making stuff!

27 years old. 5'10" and weigh about 200 lbs. Work all day at a busy doctor's office. Love to knit, read and watch tv. Mostly happy with my life, but I do have some bad habits. I eat out or eat snacks way too often. I do not exercise enough (or very consistantly!).

I'm a 31 year old girl living in Montreal. I've struggled with food and my weight my whole life. For the past ten years, my weight has ranged from 95 to 165 pounds. I love to knit and I have a knitting blog: http://shepurls.blogspot.com

I'm 19 and I am just starting college. I want to be healthy before I am too far away from home. I love music and I am constantly at shows. And I know that losing the weight will help me jump and scream better.

I'm a 44 year old graduate student in Professional and Technical Writing at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. My partner and I have a 21 year old daughter who is also in college. I love knitting, reading, writing and cooking.

I work for a non-profit in DC. I've been vegetarian for 4 years and became vegan in April 2007.

I'm 30. I have a 6 year old. I'm married. I have about 30 pounds of unwanted weight on me, and I'd rather knit than exercise. I like to eat too much and I'm here to try to get motivated!

I counsel other people and want to provide inspiration and be a good role model. Want to be healthy.

I'm 33, single, and pretty active, but my diet isn't great. I have a job that keeps me really busy (10 to 11 or more hours a day, ugh), so I rarely eat lunch, but make up for it later in the night. So most of my calories are consumed after 8 PM. During the weekend what little structure I do have is completely out the window and I eat mindlessly throughout the day. I have a particular weekness for sugar. Weight: 7/7/07 = 170

25 yr old, married, full-time office drone, part-time student, still figuring out what I want to do when I grow up. Knitter, spinner, crocheter, reader.

In my 30s, 5'5" and weigh over 190 lbs. I gained 50 lbs. while pregnant and more than a year later I still have 30 lbs. of it to lose before getting back to my pre-pregnancy weight. Live with my English husband in Worcester, UK after moving here together from Germany (where we met while working), although I'm originally from California (confused yet?!). I spend most of my time at home as a stay-at-home mom/part-time freelance translator. Moving abroad was a big life change for me, and I'm still adjusting.
I've never been thin, and I love food so much that it's difficult for me to resist my cravings. However, with peer support it has been much easier for me to adjust to healthier eating habits. I've been on PT since 2005 and have found it to be an excellent tool for weight loss/control when used properly (daily logging + regular interaction with peers).

I am a 26 year old woman knitter in DC who is finished with making excuses about weight loss. I work as a nonprofit fundraiser and run my own yarn-dyeing business as well.

I'm 33 years old and have been overweight most of my life. At 26 I began to get sick and found out that I had a pituitary tumor that caused Cushing's Disease, which accounted for even more weight gain and tons of other health problems. Three surgeries later, I'm feeling better and am working to improve my health and get rid of some of this weight!

I am 51, married 33 years. I have three grown sons, and 4 grandchildren. I have walked a lot, but not worked out. I joined a gym last week, and started a program to build muscle and lose weight. I have a upper body injury that keeps me from doing some activities.

I just turned 30, and just realized that I have some extra pounds that I'd be healthier without. I lose my appetite when I'm stressed or sad, and I eat when I'm happy. In the past year I've done a lot to get my moods stable and happy, and I feel great, but I no longer have the "diet" of down times to keep weight off. I'm hoping to find some healthier ways to keep my body fit, and to incorporate more exercise.

I've been married for one year. My husband was recently transferred to another state, so I'm 5 hours away by car from my family and friends. We're hoping to someday be graced with children. The clock is ticking ;-)

I am a sales rep/ education student in Allentown, PA. I live with my boyfriend and my Boston Terrier, Oscar. My interests are knitting, spinning and reading.

I'm a 35yr aussie girl living a busy life as a nurse, wife and cat mummy. I have alot of weight to loss so it's time to start :)

single, 34, and i'd like to have more strength and confidence. recovering from sciatica, doing part time studies in textiles, and an avid knitter.

I'm a 31 year old musician, living and trying to sing in Indiana. I'm going to be married in September and don't want to hate my wedding pictures. I've been knitting for about six years, but in the last three years I've gone from knitter to Knitter. Some muggles have accused me of "having a problem."

A SAHM dealing with PCOS and the problems it brings.

40 year old mom of one toddler. I work in computers, and like to knit and ride my bike.

I'm a 28-year old office worker, knitter, and computer gamer. I went on Jenny Craig with my mom in the summer of '05, and lost about 60 pounds in the first year I was on the program... bringing me to a size I haven't been since Junior High. I've kept going to my weekly check-ins at Jenny, but been less consistent with food and exercise, and have been stalled out, bouncing around within 10 pounds from that point for the last year and a half. I'm glad I haven't gained it back, but getting sick of being stuck where I am when I have at least another 40 pounds I'd like to lose. My husband of almost 6 months and I are headed to a music festival in California over the 4th of July weekend, and I'd like to drop 10 pounds a month between now and then to get to my goal (though right now I'll take *any* movement in the right direction that sticks around for more than a week!)

I'm a female in her early 40's. Stressful, but rewarding active professional career and 4 children (all mine!) ages 18 - 6. I recently lost 25 pounds (Goal #1), but would like to continue with Goal #2 of running again and eventually completing a 5K. I ran competitively years ago.

I'm a 53 year old wife & mom to a teen, and also mom to a great rat terrier who helps me exercise with 2 long walks each day.

I was a skinny kid and active teenager. When I was 17 I got into the work force, and that's when the weight started coming on. By 21 I was already obese. I topped out at 212. I lost about 59 pounds when I had my daughter at 24. I felt great about myself, and I look great too. I stayed at my goal for about a year. Then I stopped nursing and went back to work. It all came back and then some. I am now 226 pounds. I have no excuses, because I work in a hospital where there are lots of healthy food choices, employee gym, nutritionist, and a nice walking path. I spent almost all of my 20s being overweight. I just turned 30 a few months ago, and I am ready for a change.

I'm 21, about 5'6, not sure how much I weigh but it's up there LOL. I'm a size 18 pant, 40C bra if that helps. I have ALWAYS been overweight, I came from overweight parents, so growing up, I had no idea what a real portion looked like and how much I was actually consuming. My junior year of high school I lost 70 lbs. I started dating a jerk and put it all back on. I dumped him and lost 30 or so lbs. Now I've been with my current boyfriend for over a year and I've put that back on, and I think it's due to birth control and eating out so much. I'm working on changing my habits.

71 years old but active and fit. Where did those 10 lbs come from?
