The 5 Metabolism Killing Foods You Should Never Eat
This is a quick list of 5 commonly eaten "health" foods that put you at risk of THE most dangerous chronic diseases such
as Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, Alzheimer's and even Cancer. This list was put together by my friend Dr. Jonny Bowden.
These foods also sap your energy, make you cranky and irritable, slow your thinking and wrinkle your skin. When you remove them, you'll likely feel a ton better!
1. Agave Nectar Syrup. Agave has been touted as a health food because it is low-glycemic which simply means it does not raise your blood sugar quickly. HOWEVER- Agave contains high levels of FRUCTOSE, which contributes to insulin resistance, and helps you store fat!
So the next time you see the Agave bottle sitting next to sugar and honey at Whole Foods, please don't think that is the healthy option. Sugar is sugar. Sugar causes you to store fat, not burn it!!
2. Canola Oil. This oil has been considered "healthy" because it does contain some omega-3 acids. But in order to make Canola Oil look nice and clear (which helps it sell) it has been refined beyond belief. This process can create some incredibly unhealthy trans-fats, which can damage your heart. When you dump this oil and replace it with healthier fats and oils, you'll have more energy.
3. Whole Grains. This is a biggie. As one of our friends in the food industry likes to say "whole grains are the biggest con I have seen since the filtered cigarette." The reason for this strong language is that "Whole Grains" basically don't exist in the food you eat! Yes they contain some extra nutrients, but grains need to be processed in SOME way to make bread and pasta. Any time a grain is ground down and you eat it, the starch gets converted to sugar.
This sets off the process where your insulin spikes and your body goes into fat storage mode.
4. Corn. I absolutely love that Jonny put Corn on this list of foods, because we have been telling people to pull corn out of their diet for a couple years now. There are several big reasons why corn should be taken out of the diet. First is that 85% of corn is genetically modified. This is a controversial area, but we are seeing more and more evidence that indicates people need to take this threat seriously. Second, most corn that has been consumed has been processed and stripped of most vitamins and minerals. Third and most importantly, corn is very high glycemic, which spikes your blood sugar leading to a metabolic disaster.
The every now and then piece of corn on the cob is fine, and some local organic fresh corn in the summer is fantastic. Other than this, stay away from corn as well as you can. 5. Foods High In Xenoestrogens. Xenoestrogens are compounds that basically act like estrogen in the human body. Unfortunately, our food supply is teeming with them.
Too much estrogen in your body, regardless of where it comes from, leads to a condition known as estrogen dominance.
Estrogen dominance can affect weight gain, fibrocystic breast disease, PMS, migraines, menstrual disturbances, endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts and breast cancer.
Estrogen is produced not only internally but also produced in reaction to chemicals and other substances in our food. When it is not broken down adequately, higher levels of estrogen build up. You can avoid exposure to harmful xenoestrogens by avoiding crops that are heavily sprayed with pesticides.
One also wants to avoid factory farmed meat and eggs, and opt for a more pasture focused option if money allows. One of the WORST things about estrogen dominance is that it forces fat onto your hips and belly.

What Is A "Lean Body Response?"
This is a term recently coined by Dr. Bowden to explain what happens when you get the right mix of foods in your diet. When you get things right, it literally triggers a response where your body starts to burn more fat for energy.
This is an innovative concept, because it is the opposite of traditional dieting where you are counting calories or points. Or otherwise just eating less. The new science is showing us that there are certain foods that you really need to avoid, because they literally can "kill" your metabolism.

The Scientific Validation Behind The "Lean Body Response"
According to Walter Willet, MD and Professor Of Nutrition At The Harvard School Of Public Health eating the exact foods that Dr. Bowden says to AVOID (not eat less of) "can cause quick, sharp spikes in blood sugar and insulin levels, and over time can increase the risk of diabetes and heart disease." These continual spikes in blood sugar and insulin lead to a "vicious cycle leads to weight gain and, in turn, to the conditions associated with excess weight (such as blood triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes)."
The traditional diet approach where you count the fat in your food does not necessarily lead to a triggering of the lean body response. The reason for this is that certain fats help your body burn fat efficiently. Other fats, like the very commonly consumed canola oil, help to bring your fat burning to a halt.
