Today is my Friday - I'm looking forward to the "weekend" - I only have one doctor's appointment (Thursday), so I finally have some space and time to myself.
I have suddenly become sick and tired of the food I've been eating almost every day for a year. I really liked it for awhile, and it was nice to not have to think about what to buy and make and eat. I've been experimenting with different kinds of sandwiches, but I don't really have the mental bandwidth to explore new recipes and ideas.
With my work hours, my routine has been to eat a small breakfast at home, and then pack everything else I plan to eat that day into my lunch bag to take to work six days a week. As long as I didn't snack when I got home late at night, that's worked out fine, and I kept my weight down until I got cancer. (Now I have to eat more to feel good, with the nausea. It's like morning sickness, except it's all day for a week or two after chemo, and I don't get a cute little baby at the end of it.) I'm not worried about the weight part -- well, a little worried, but I have other, more important worries right now.
So I impulsively made a decision. I'm going to try one of those meal services where they send you the ingredients and instructions for cooking food at home. The one I decided on is called Home Chef, and I get my first delivery next week. I'll receive ingredients for 3 meals, 2 servings each. Not all of them are low calorie, so I'll make adjustments with the rest of the food I eat. Anyway, I figure I can cook up two of the meals on my days off, and work the other cooking in some morning I work. I'll have to use the microwave at work, or else eat the meals cold, but even that sounds interesting to my taste buds. I'll learn some cooking skills and eat some foods that I wouldn't ordinarily get to eat, and the calories will be all counted.
The first three meals are
Parisian Bistro Steak,
Blue Cheese, Smoked Almond, and Chive-crusted Pork Chop
Chicken with Basil-Pecorino Cream Sauce.
There are different choices I could make, but I'm thinking I might just go with the default most of the time, so I don't have to make a decision.
I'm looking forward to this!
