What Type of Advice Would YOU Rather Have?

When you seek advice to help you lose weight, would you rather have "expert" advice given to you by someone who clearly doesn't know whether that advice works or not or would you like personal advice that you know works for the person giving it?

Example ~ I know someone who constantly spews "scientific" reports of how to lose weight. "The math is simple" type thing. He's got no personal experience in actually losing weight (he tops out over 380 American pounds) but runs around telling people how to lose weight. He's got hundreds of links to websites but no practical experience.

Then I have a friend that has lost all the weight she needed to and has been at goal for years. She offers advice but never tells you that there's only one formula for losing. She knows that you can eat right, get the needed sleep, exercise, and decreased stress but still plateau or gain. She offers a "this is how I did it, but I'm not an expert" perspective.

I have far more respect for someone who has accomplished the weight loss and maintained it more than "scientific numbers" that aren't proven.

What about you? Do you prefer book theory or actual "I did it" experienced advice?
