There is no "normal"

Just a thought I was having that I'd thought I'd share. It seems that a lot of people ask advice on whether their experiences are "normal". While it is certainly important for our experiences and feelings to be validated by others, I thought that it would be worthwhile to point out that there is not necessarily some "normal" in any person's experience. I feel like we must learn to act from within, and not to measure our experiences against those of others. This could apply to really any aspect of life, and does most importantly apply to more than just the ways we feel when we are dieting and the steps we are driven to take. For instance, people often ask themselves if their relations with a partner are "normal". The question posed is, "Should I be doing this? Or should he have said that?" While there is some "normalcy" to the course of human life, the truth is that every experience whether it is within one person or between two, is also distinctly unique. We really should try to stop asking ourselves whether we are "normal", and instead focus on whether what we are doing, and the relationships we are involved in - whether this means some relationship with food, or some with a significant other - feels "right" for our selves.

Hmm, well, that's really all. :)
