Eating when you're already full....because it tastes so good!

I crossed this bridge just a a half hour ago. And thought I'd share and get some feedback on how others handle it.

I bought a 1/2 sub sandwich from the downstairs deli. I knew from practicing portion sizes that all I needed to get full would be 1/2 of what I had. With the first bite I knew I had a problem...that was the tastiest sub I had had in long time. It was turkey, green and red bell pepper, jalapeno peppers and melted cheese, (I had them leave off the ranch dressing and I removed some of the cheese... yeah, me!)

I knew I was going to have a problem just eating 1/2 of it. My first instinct was to immediately toss the other half in the trash. But then, being wasteful is not in my nature. So I took another bite, maybe two. Then decided I had better slow down so I can be sure to feel full by the time I'm done. So I made way to the water cooler for a cup of water, then another cup.

Finally, as I took my last bite I knew I was full but the other half was calling me...when I say this was a good sub; I'm telling you it was delicious. So I started wrapping up the second half to put away in the fridge...but not before taking one bite to remember it by. It will just have to be something to look forward to later...till we meet agian at dinner.

I'm really proud of myself for backing away from the other half of the sandwich. I've had to learn that restaurants cater to people who eat more than they should and I must listen to my body instead of what's put on my plate in front of me. Learning that it's O.K. to eat just one piece of grilled chicken breast covered in mushroom sauce even though the waiter brought me two, and there is nothing wrong with eating just 2 or 3 bites of cheesecake even though that means most of it will be thown away.

Does anyone else have a hard time putting the breaks on when they are really enjoying something. How do you deal with it?
