Does occasionally falling below 1200 damage your metabolism?

For my particular weight loss goals I try to stay between 1300 and 1500 calories per day, however, sometimes when I have a high calorie day (over 2000) the next day I am not hungry and tend to eat a lot less (1100 - 1000 cals.). Does anyone know whether falling below 1200 for just one day is enough to put you in starvation mode? Is it worse to eat late in the evening when I'm in relaxation phase just to meet my calories or to forgo and not get enough? Somehow eating a snack right before bed just to get enough calories feels wrong. Any advice fellow peertrainers?
