Playing with your metabolism?

Recently I read that our food intake should be different everyday. Obviously we eat different things everyday, but the amount of calories needed for our own individual body type should be more on some days and less than the other days so that our metabolism doesn't "expect" how it is going to work. When we talk about exercise we express "mixing it up", so I guess I can see how that makes sense. I would like to hear what others think. Thanks.
