I stopped drinking coffee about 2 weeks ago because I was really addicted to it. Anyways, ever since, I can't go anymore... I'm eating lots of fiber too - but I do have string cheese everyday. I'm scared to take a laxative because I have Dumb and Dumber images in my head.
Any advice?

Water
Drink lots of water.
Also, what kind of fiber are you eating and are you on a low-fat type of eating plan? We need both water-soluable and fat-soluable fiber to keep us going (pun intended) and we do need a little fat in our diets to work with that type of fiber.

yea dont take a laxative from the drugstore, like ex-lax or anything...they are awful. But there is an herbal laxative called cascara sagrada. its very gentle and gets things going. just take 2 capsules and drink some water and it should make things easier. also hot liquids like tea are helpful.

another more natural than ex-lax type thing is colace. way more gentle. what kinds of fiber are you eating? try switching it up a bit if it's only one kind.
good luck! i know that can be an unpleasant situation. If you do go with the laxatives, just take a gentle one and follow the recommended dose and it shouldn't be like dumb&dumber:)

Your body will adjust, however if you are dreading the 'moment' because you fear things will be impacted consider a stool softener. Taking laxatives can potentially mess up naturaly rythyms that your body needs to re-establish on its own. Consult a physician if this goes on for too much longer. Are able to go at all?

I recently discovered the magic of psyllium husks - I took them as a powder mixed with fruit juice, but you can get them in capsule form. I originally took them as preparation for a colonic, but they worked their own magic. I think it's meant to be taken on a regular basis, to keep things moving smoothly - I'm only just looking into it myself. But what I took worked in about 24-36 hours and there was no pain or cramping the way you get with ex-lax. I have no qualms about taking ex-lax once I hit the 3-day point, but the "6-12 hours" promised on the package turns out to be 16 hours for me, and it can be awkward depending on your lifestyle. Next time I'll take it at 4pm!

Funny you should mention it...
Last night I tried to make some fresh almond butter in my FP with an oz of almonds. Best I could get was almond 'flour'. Never done it before, I probably needed to do something else to get it to make butter. At any rate, I ate the almond flour anyway. I bet I have 'gone' 5 times today!!! I heard it is good to do that with flax seeds, too.
BTW, yeah, your body is rebelling. I quit coffee and cigarettes and had trouble going with each. Funny 'connection', huh. It will iron out eventually.
I do recommend trying another hot liquid. I did and it helped. Decaf hot beverage. I like green tea or regular decaf tea.

I have IBS and constipation is my dominant symptom. I have found that eating fiberone for breakfast for a few days gets things moving again. As long as I have a bowl of fiberone for breakfast I am fine...but a couple of days without it and I'm in trouble again.

Stool Softener
I eat at least 5 fruits and vegetables a day, exercise regularly and drink a lot of water and still have chronic constipation. I take one stool softener (without laxative) in the morning and one at night and this has solved the problem for me completely.
