Holidays...
The holidays are right around the corner, and I already feel my will power slipping. Anyone else?
What are you guys trying to do to stay on top of your goals and keep from putting on the winter 5 or 10?
Wed. Oct 12, 12:09pm
some ideas I've had...
I too have been thinking about the holidays...which to me means yummy food and sweets while sitting curled up inside for days....
Here is what I've come up with and I hope it works out:
instead of hot chocolate: spice teas with cinnamon
instead of baking alot: making new holiday decorations
I've been thinking for thanksgiving to try just to fill up on the turkey, cranberry dishes and veggies...
as for holiday parties and family gatherings those will take willpower, but I've decided to host the holidays at my place this year so I feel I have more control.
Also pumpkin pie filling alone ( the canned kind) is pretty low in calories and alot of dishes can be made with that and cinnamon alone as a substitution for pie ( like pumpkin pudding). Baked apples with a little brown sugar and cinnamon are also a fairly healthy treat.

ooo...excellent thread! My tentative plan:
1. Log regularly on peertrainer to keep me aware of how much I'm consuming.
2. Make exercise a top priority.
3. Put weight loss on hold starting end of November/beginning of December, and focus on weight maintenance until after New Year's.
4. Redouble my efforts in January to combat the winter blues.
5. And very uncharacteristically for me, I've actually started to get gifts and organize holiday cards, and do other prep stuff so that I'm not so stressed out come the crazy weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year's.

I think I'll go skiing this year instead
insane? maybe. but why not be active? I wish my family could all take a holiday vacation together, without the bear claws and christmas morning bacon, apple muffins, eggnog parties, etc. I do love it but I'm considering a different kind of holiday season. How can I tell my family that I need help? I can't ask them not to put out bear claws. It's a tradition and they're all skinny anyway. They don't understand at all.

I love this thread!
thinking about this today. Thanksgiving is my all time favorite holiday. My father-in-law makes the most delicious sausage stuffing. I didn't even know you could put sausage in stuffing! and the fresh cranberry sauce. My mouth is literally watering just imagining our Thanksgiving table. I tend to overeat for a week because they plan for leftovers, even with our large gathering. My plan will be to workout. Harder than I already do. I workout 4 times a week but maybe I'll being to step it up to 6 now to get in the habit.

pumpkin pie smoothies
I buy a can of pumpkin, NOT pie filling. I add a couple spoonfuls to my blender and add a scoop of vanilla whey (trader joes brand rocks!). I then add some cinnamon and nutmeg...depending on my mood I might add some stevia (natural sweetner). Then I just blend it all together with a little water to "taste".
It tastes just like pumpkin pie!

Leftover tips
If you're hosting Thanksgiving or Christmas dinners, have your guests take home some leftovers. Then you won't have everything at your house and the temptation to eat it till it's gone. Get some Gladware ahead of time so you're prepared. There are so many tempting goodies out there during the holidays. Try not to bring any of it into your home. If you're out in public and order something I think we're less likely to completely overindulge.
